Asolutely ****ing sensational- where to start

Midfield- no macca, no edwards, no goody, no worries- Porps, Knighter, Vince, Douglas- sensational

Tippett and Sellar up forward- very very impressive

3 ruck amigos- ben who????

Brad Symes- did he look like he is where he wants to be or what- dream debut for the young fella

Campbell- nervous early on, made a few blunders but looked increasingly comfortable at this level as the game went on

Bock and Rutten- AA CHB and FB;)- talk about TWO rocks of gibralter back there

... OK without getting too carried away, and accepting that match for what it was- we have some VERY encouraging signs coming out of this match:thumbsu:

i'd just like to point out that i am now james sellar's no 1 fan :thumbsu:

(and i'd like to place a placeholder on jarryn jacky's no 1 fan too!! :))

Really liked the way Adelaide moved the ball into their forwardline. They used the corridor more and moved the ball much quicker, whilst in no way compromising their very good defense.

I reckon Adelaide will surprise a few teams this year in the season proper.

Good luck next week (not if you play us though :p)

Trying to keep a lid on my emotions. Collingwood were ordinary, lets face it, they apparently have had a gastro bug go through the side (pardon the pun) and had many first choice players not playing.

However.......

The form of the kids, especially Sellar and Tippett, well, who could have expected that! Thought Moran looked the goods too when he got the pace of the game.

Jacky looks like he needs to adjust to the pace and Mackay and Campbell looked pretty good once they found their feet.

If nothing else AAMI has gotta be better than Albany.......

Holy shit!

TAB are paying out $9.00 for the Crows over 39.5 (final odds)

I never checked what they were before the match.....crazy stuff!

Jacky looked lively when around the ball. Was expecting more from him considering the pre-season hype but hell overall that was bloody impressive.

Definatley gonna give JP a high five when uni goes back.

David Mackay was good for the time he was on, good disposal.

Brad Symes looks the goods.

Vince and Douglas were great, and the usual brilliance from Knights and Van Berlo.

Tippet was good as was Moran.

Jacky did some tackling though some of his kicks werent too good and as for Bryce Campbell looked a bit nervous early on but turned it around later doing some good things.

With 11 games at AAMI there is no way this club will collect a wooden spoon in our life time !

The AFC is too proud for that to happen especially as long as there are 11 Vic teams.

There are 10 vic teams.

And with the power, you get 12 games at AAMI.

With that in mind you've probably gone from 16th to in the mix for finals on my ladder :D

Bock: MUST play at CHB and regardless of how poorly we’re looking up forward he shouldn’t move from defence. 24 possessions and just moped up beautifully.

Burton: Looked a lot fitter and moved well, but it must be said, you would be hard pressed to find a more selfish player. Had Goodwin calling for the ball all by himself 20 out from goal, instead he tries to do it all himself. Had a good game, looked dangerous, but he frustrates me so much.

Campbell: I’m not doubting the fact he made lots of clangers, poor disposal by foot and some dropped marks. However, in my 4 years of seeing him play not once have I seen him play in defence. He looked a bit lost down there and I’m not surprised. Despite the mistakes, and there were plenty, he also did some great 1%’ers and his tackle which brought Thomas over the line was a beauty. He tackled hard (1 tackle, yeah right…) and applied a few great blocks for teammates. Got better as the game wore on and needs to stay in the side to gain confidence.

Doughty: Hit the packs hard and threw his body around, pleasing to see in the pre-season but I’m sorry he shouldn’t play a game in 2008. Mediocrity.

Douglas: Let me start by saying that he’s bulked up marginally, certainly not as much as I would’ve liked. He did a few very smart things today, and his quick handball to Knights in the second term was a corker. Loved his supergoal and he did a few other very nice things with and without the football. I just want to see him more involved.

Edwards: Would’ve been more beneficial playing Otten IMO. He barely played and rightfully so at this time of the year.

Goodwin: Superb game from the skipper. 4 goals, and presented very well up forward. Keep that up and he could boot 40 goals this season.

Jacky: After all the hype I had unrealistic expectations, and Jacky had a bit of a shocker. Was it just an off day or does he struggle to get good distance off the boot? There were glimpses, very few, but they were occasionally there.

Johncock: Took some nice marks, albeit uncontested, but had a few loose kicks which I’m sure is just rust.

Knights: He will be an elite midfielder, I’m convinced, not that I wasn’t before. Near perfect disposal, in fact I can’t think of one clanger and I loved his right foot goal. Keep it up Knighta.

Mackay. Brent Reilly the II. Extremely slight, and looks like Douglas from last year, but he will be a fantastic midfielder for the AFC. Great skills, seems to be wherever the ball is, and he also hit the packs very hard today.

Maric: Personally I thought he rucked very well and got up higher than I’ve seen before. Probably played about 50% of the match and when he was on I was impressed.

McGregor: Played well however I don’t think he’ll be able to get away with as many hands in the back as he did today during the season proper.

McLeod: Similar boat with Edwards, seldom used but as usual he played well when on.

Moran: Quietly racked up 13 possessions in about 60-70% of the game. He rucked well and moves beautifully but it’ll take a lot to convince me. No doubt there’s a lot of potential but exactly what position will he fill? People bagged Meesen for a lack of intensity but it’s the same story here…

Porplyzia: Probably our best, at least in the first half. Great game playing in the midfield and he set up a ton of forward entries. Such clean hands and he has definitely trimmed down and his game will be all the better for it.

Reilly: He’s a gun, there’s no doubt. Best skills on this team and his supergoal was just another example of his magnificent kicking technique. Why was he even doubting himself; he was always going to drill it.

Rutten: Typical Rutten, solid as a rock.

Sellar: THE most pleasing thing to come out of the game. Kicked 3 goals, took 6 marks, all of which were on the lead as a result of presenting hard. Credited for zero tackles but I thought his defensive pressure was pleasing and good to see the smother. Only 18 but built exceptionally well, I think we have an outstanding prospect on our hands. I didn’t expect him to play much this season but on the back of this performance and given how great a shape he’s in, I see no reason why he can’t have an impact this year.

Shirley: With all the youngsters developing so well, I’m even less enthused about Shirley. Played well, but still, and it’s not his fault, I’m just so underwhelmed by #12.

Stevens: Possibly the most underrated guy on our list. Gets the job done week in, week out, unless he’s playing on a giant who can beat him purely out of strength.

Symes: Very, very good game. I’m been highly skeptical but he didn’t put a foot wrong today. Loved his aggression through the midfield, and one fend off he gave was great to see. Good to have a midfielder with a bit of height, and I hope we keep him in the midfield because I think that’s where he plays his best football.

Thompson: As usual, racked up the stats and was the general in the midfield. Can’t understand why he continues to cop so much criticism, IMO he’s a top notch midfielder.

Tippett: Rucked well, showed some great signs especially when the ball hit the deck, but his work up forward got me excited. Took a beautiful contested mark against 3 opponents, and he dropped 1 or 2 marks which he deserved to take because he got into such good positions. Great signs from Kurt, both in the ruck and as a key forward.

van Berlo: Solid showing from VB, his stab pass to Sellar being the highlight.

Vince: More of the same and I’ll be conVINCEd in no time. Classy performance, looked great in the midfield and other than on one occasion he actually looked to create play instead of merely bombing away. Great snap goal.

well that was acceptable.

Sorry smoothy but you will be Jame's 3rd fan behind CC and me. I think I might have to wear James Heritage guernsey for our next game (although it is huge on me!)
