Who cares, Grand final on a Sunday is just plain stupid, first one I’ll be missing since the 90s

Not sure there was a viable alternative with Werribee VFL playing a final at Chirnside on Saturday.

Yarraville is not ideal, only other decent venue in the West is Willy, not sure if available.

Was all about the planning, I know nobody could’ve predicted Werribee going this far but we could’ve had an extra home and away game and played the gf next week like it has been for a while now

Game didn't reach great heights but at least it was close for 3 quarters. PC only 2.6 kicking to scoring end in Q1 cost them. Their ball movement was good early and they worried a slow starting WD who didn't hit the lead until after the siren at half time.

PC lost their run and system after HT but hung around until half way through the last without looking like winners.

Congrats to WD, best side during the year, winners in the reserves as well.

Big crowd, biggest for a while, sun out, good day.

100% Agree. Was bit of a boring game, very scrappy untill Werribee decided to turn it on

thought the game was intriguing. The dogs should have been 5 goals up at quarter time, then it was a grind after that.
Great weather, great crowd, better side all year ended up getting the chocolates.

Thought the young 16 year old on debut for Point Cook was terrific, run and carry and composure was excellent.

Thought Mould was best on ground to be honest, but Molivas had a couple of big moments.

Great day at Werribee yesterday and good crowd. As mentioned in some of the above comments, PC started well early and should have been further ahead. Quarters 2 and 3 were a tough grind and then WD kicked away in the last quarter. Great speccy taken by WD player No. 9 at the 31 minute mark of the 4th quarter. Took my camcorder with me and recorded the last half. Will post the YouTube link in a couple days.

Agree on the first quarter. PC dominated every stat but just could not put the runs on the board. Second quarter was a grind with a kick after the HT siren giving WD momentum in the second half.

The wind seriously affected what could have been a good contest. 19 WD dominated the first half in the back line when the heat was on.

Good to see the WRFL didn’t kick you out mate 🤣🤣
But they don’t live stream game’s anywhere you can watch them. Not sure why.

I'm going to email the EDFL this morning to ask them what their official policy is regarding videoing a game. I want to go to the Keilor v Strathmore GF next week but not if I can't video the last half. I'll impress on them that I'm not live streaming but just recording to put on YouTube a couple days after the game. I'll report back!

I honestly can’t see an issue. What if keilor wanted to record the game on Sunday to use for their match planning? Can’t see an issue with it unless it’s going live.
Best of luck mate.

VAFA football can’t be compared with the WRFL. Both have different styles of play, and don’t pay mercenaries.

SQ called AJAX, an amateur club that finished last in Premier B this season ‘a bottom feeder club’. AJAX finished this season with one win and will be relegated. Looking back, AJAX played Hoppers in a practice match before the 2023 season and Hoppers lost by 12 goals, albeit it was only practice.

Laverton played against Box Hill North a VAFA D4 (Level 7) team in another practice game and went down by 5 goals. Masala (VAFA D4 (Level 7) also finished their game with Laverton with a win.

My post is not to denigrate Laverton, but to let SQ know that his pointed comments regarding teams and competitions that he noticeably knows nothing about are worth a goose egg.

Should the Western Rams, also SQ’s version of a ‘bottom feeder club’, currently with the Riddle League come across, interest mounts as to how WRFL stands among brother competitions.

I expect chastening replies.

BTW SQ, on a different note you and I are on the same page with regard to the WRFL's future and the urgent need for a local AFL primary schools' (reignited) competition.

The argument by some on this forum that it is impossible because primary schools have few primary school male teachers is a nonsense. I have grandchildren, M + F play on Fridays with most schools enjoying the participation of retired grandparents taking the reins at their g'kids' schools' football teams.

It needs to be started before soccer starts its own. Local clubs must get together and formulate a strategy to approach schools. Surely club members and supporters have links to schools?? The cost of a set of guernseys is chickenfeed and an excellent inducement to extract a positive result.

Are you referring to me?

Because I referred to Western Rams as a bottom feeder. I don't know how you could describe them as anything else?

And I have been banging on about the primary schools and leagues working together to help convert "New Australians" into footballers.

But my initials are SC not SQ.....

I don't recall ever calling Ajax bottom feeders.... in fact they have done something that I wish my club could boast.... they beat Werribee in a grand final!

Hoppers were 20 goals worse off than they were 12 months ago. But they look like there's a bit of excitement around and hopefully they get more than 8 to training prior to Christmas.

I'm not sure what your getting at with the Laverton reference.

However Point Cook were competing with those same clubs not that long ago, and now just played off in a division 1 grand final.

Maybe the difference is aspirations and capabilities. But like you say with the schools thing, too many clubs say it's too hard. Everything worth doing is hard. But if you get the right people leading any club, with the right intentions, with the right plan, any club, can achieve anything.

Unfortunately, they don't grow on trees, and they are hard to attract for clubs with no ambition.

The structure of division 3 is to service the bottom 2 clubs. Now that has gone, it's a non issue.

The other clubs could and should be able to compete with division 2, and if they show some ambition they could put steps in like Sanctuary Lakes did, and jump from the bottom of div 2 and become competitive div 1 clubs.... but hey which path do they want to follow.
