Collins - A player with good skills who could find the pill and new where the goals were. Only flaw his skinny frame.

Grigg - A good size who can also find the ball. His main flaw - kicking the ball (the most important element of the game)

Despite what that idiot Terry Wallace says on Trade Week Radio, Grigg is not a HBFer...Would butcher it from there. Is a good in and under and running midfielder who can kick goals...Similar to Collins, just better at this stage

Richmond has completed its second trade for the week, acquiring Shaun Grigg from Carlton in a direct swap for Andrew Collins.


Grigg, 22, 190cm and 85kg, is a tough, hard-running midfielder, who has played 43 league games since being recruited by the Blues, with selection 19, in the 2006 AFL National Draft.
He played eight of the last nine games in an impressive finish to the 2010 season, before straining a hamstring, which forced him out of Carlton’s elimination final against Sydney. In five of those appearances, he gathered 20 possessions or more, with a career-high 29 touches against West Coast at Subiaco in Round 17.
“Shaun is the type of player we are looking to add to our list. He’s got some experience, having been in the AFL system a few years, but is still young and will add to our midfield mix,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.
“We believe he will be a good fit for our side. He’s got a bit of size for a midfielder, is hard at it, and has a really good “engine”, which will help us next year with the changes to the interchange system.”
Cameron reiterated the Club’s philosophy during this trade period . . .
“It’s been a priority for us to protect our selections in the upcoming draft, so we can recruit more young talent. But if the opportunity came up to bring in some players who are in the right age and experience bracket, then we’d be interested. And, Shaun certainly falls into that category,” he said.
Collins, 22, was drafted by Richmond at selection 73 in the 2006 National Draft, and has played 25 games since making his league debut in 2009.
“Andrew is a quality, young player, but, at the end of the day, you have to give up something decent to get something decent, and that’s what happened with this trade,” Cameron said.

Useless, pretty much sideways, trade IMO. Would love to hear Cuz's take on it, seeing as he seemed to have a pretty good bond going on with Andy. Also wonder what the other players think about it. I know they are all made aware that these things can happen, but that doesn't necessarily make it any easier to accept. Might be different if they can see the value in bringing a known classy player on to the list, but ffs, Shaun Grigg

Mark my word, we are tied to taking Houli at #2 in the PSD, and thus our hand was forced in to trading for Grigg or losing him. I'd have preferred we just lost him. It's almost as if they feel they need to justify having Blair Hartley on the payroll by picking up a couple of players from other sides.

maybe we will put cotchin and martin on the ouside seeing as they can play outside as well.

You have every right to create a thread but to damn the current administration on one marginal trade is treacherous and just plain dumb. Grigg is a better player than Andy. He is bigger and can play forward midfield or back. Tell me would you have Andy standing Pavlich and doing a good job over at Fremantle (round 20 or thereabouts) as Grigg did......I don't think so. Stop crucifying the club and don't bag a Richmond footballer as Grigg now is.

We were always going to be going for average players and coming off second best when we hired a guy as opposition analysis expert. I hate the fact we lost Collins but I do think Grigg looks good. The one thing I must ask is I thought we only recruited players that had awesome foot skills? What happened to that?

No, but then I wouldn't expect Cotchin to either. Lets just say, we'll be keeping a close eye on Grigg to see if he takes on the heart and passion for the RFC that Andy did

That's just matter of opinion in most cases. I guess the footy dept, in particular Blair Hartley, rates Grigg's foot skills. As do some other posters on here, whilst they question his decision making at times. Personally, I don't think there is any wrong with his kicking mechanics, but haven't paid enough attention to his actual footy awareness and decision making.
