I'm probably not the best to argue a point with you, as I don't watch those two versions, but I'd find it hard to entertain the idea that Reece wouldn't be a contender in those versions. Surely he at least makes the top 12 in both of those versions. I'd be staggered if there were up to twelve from both series combined who are better than Reece.
But as mentioned, I haven't watched those versions, so I don't really know.
What I do know is that Leona Lewis, who won the UK version about 4-5 years ago, sung Whitney Houston's Will Always Love You in one of her performances. It was a very good performance... but Tara-Lynn Shammock, who also performed that song during the auditions of this year's Australian X Factor, out performed Leona Lewis, IMO... and that was only an audition.
If Tara-Lynn had have got her VISA sorted, I think it would be extremely close between her and Reece.
So, yeah, I struggle to see how Reece would not at least be a contender in the UK X Factor, considering I would think he would be close to equal to Leona Lewis.
Lets be honest. In 5 years time I will be very very surprised if people know who Reece Mastin is. I like him but he wouldn't have made either live show. It's only natural though as UK and US have much bigger populations, and lets be honest, UK/US is where the superstars of the music industry come from. Should get on the UK/US shows for sure, some very good talent there, US especially, alot better than what American Idol has produced in the last few years anyway.
Here's a few from the US for example:

Brian Bradley will be signed up no matter what I think, the kid will be a star.
