Xavier Clarke - ACL

Unbelievable. Cant get a break.
Are his days as a saint numbered? Contract ends this year. He was already struggling to break into the side, this will put him at the back of the pack for at least a year and a half.

Shit that's just heartbreaking. Poor bloke. Can the family catch a break at all?

Yeah it just seems to be one thing after another with the two brothers...
hope X can get back... the club will be fully behind him

Terrible news for Xavier Clarke.

I agree that his future may now be in serious doubt, but I do hope that he'll be given a chance to come back. He was in great form and must have considered himself very unlucky not to have played for the Saints yet this season.

As to the rookies, I believe that Miles has already been elevated for Dempster (along with Dawson for Allen, of course). The remaining rookies for now are :

- Steven Gaertner
- Khan Haretuku
- Brad Howard
- Sam McGarry
- Blake McGrath
- Tom Simpkin
- Ross Tungatalum

Too early for most, I'd say, as much as I'd love to see Tungatalum. Howard probably next in line, if needed (and that is a big if at this stage).

That is ***t, to do your ACL in the scobies in the form he was in is just horrible and unfortunately with the young guys pressing behind could spell trouble for his future. Only guy I can think of coming up is Howard. He needs to prove his worth now being his time at the club and the apprenticeship he has served. However, would love Miles to get a crack.

Jeez, that is really shocking. X was pushing for selction, and pushing hard, so I'm hoping the selectors will remember this.

Should of been selected in the seniors for having a few BOG in the VFL. Very unlucky in that regard. This is just unlucky beyond another level.

Although this is very likely the end of the line in regards for an AFL career, Xavier has played 100 + AFL games. Has been a great servant for the Saints regardless. :)

F*** Me!

Horrible news... Poor X

TBH, looks like the career is over. Has always struggled with injuries, and doesn't tend to recover well. This might just be the end. He needs to take the punt and go Malceski Method to save his career.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

if he doesn't make it back.... **** me what a waste :(

One word: Attard.

It's unlucky, but I can't see us keeping him on next year.

Nothin to say really, guessing it just wasn't meant to be. :(

Exactly what i was thinking when i heard the news. Attard played really well for the saints for 21 games the year he did his knee and got cut. If any consulation Attard is now playing for Chelsea Heights in the Southern League and absolutely smashing them. Looks strong and fast. Hope X can do the same as I don't see him at the saints next year now. Hope I am wrong.

His VFL form had me excited! He was due a spot in the team and unfortunately other less talented players were performing well and doing their job to the best of their ability and kept him out.

Hope he is given a chance - really depends on how deep they think this draft is now... If not I hope he is given a lifeline by another club struggling with depth as I'm sure he was about to really step up!

Extreme talent and undeservingly criticised by opposition supporters. I couldn't be more disappointed that he is injured, easily in our 22. Seriously hope we don't delist.

Clarke suffers knee injury
Sat 02 May, 2009

St Kilda defender Xavier Clarke has suffered a potentially serious knee injury in Sandringham's 48 point VFL loss against Williamstown.

The 25-year old will have scans on Sunday on a suspected ACL injury.

Drafted fifth overall in 2001, Clarke has played 105 senior games for the Saints but has been thwarted by injury throughout the last year. He started 2009 at Sandringham with increased vigour, posting a number of best on ground performances, staking claims for senior selection.

St Kilda Football Manager, Greg Hutchison said, "It was extremely unfortunate to see Xavier go down with a knee injury against Williamstown today. He's had an incredibly bright start to the year with Sandy and is just one of the players who has been working hard to put his name forth for a senior game.

"Xavier will have scans on Sunday and we should know more by Monday."

I suppose it's not official until the scans have been performed but it's hard to imagine it will be anything but an ACL now. :(

Other words:

Harvey
Goddard
Hayes

With another word soon to be added:

Dempster

That's how I'm looking at it.

He has always given this club very good service and I'm sure he's been more disappointed than anyone that injury has prevented him from playing to his potential.

I just really hope our club does the right thing at the end of the season. By that point he'd be at least 4-5 months into his rehabilitation and hopefully looking at a round 1 return. We've invested far too much to let him go now. Not only would retaining him just be the right thing to do, it would also give him the break that he deserves.
