For those who don't know (which I'm guessing is most of you since I haven't seen anything posted here yet), Xbox and PS2 go online in Australia next week.

Xbox - Wed 8th Oct

PS2 - Fri 10th Oct

I'll be on Xbox Live the as soon as I get home with my Live kit on Wednesday morning (hopefully), and I'll be on PS2 a week or so after that.

Cya there?

I'm toying with getting Xbox live, however the only real interests I would have in it would be for Knights of the Old Republic...

Is Phantasy Star Online getting an Xbox release? I doubt it highly, but I see a few SEGA releases have made the way to Xbox, no reason why PSO shouldn't.

I can't see the GameCube online capability arriving any time soon!

Good question.

Despite being a Sega nut, PSO has never really interested me. Run around, kill the same monsters over and over again......ooh! I found a rare weapon!!!.........Damn! Some Motherf***er player hacker killed me and stole my weapons!!! Now I've gotta sit here for another 6 months killing the same monsters over and over again so that I can maybe find another rare weapon and have some f***er steal it from me again....

Nah. Not my idea of fun.

Although to kinda of answer your question, I'm 99% certain that PSO is getting an Xbox release. (if it hasn't already in the US - I just haven't really taken notice of it.)

Also for your information, but don't take this as gospel as I haven't tried it myself yet...

...apparently all Xbox Live games are region free!

ie. If, for example, SegaGT Online comes out in the US 6 months before it arrives in Australia, then you don't need to wait - just import the US version and away you go. No chips. Nothing.

It might cost a little more, but it beats waiting for a local release.

I'm going to order a US Live-enabled game fairly soon so I'll confirm whether this is true or not.

Of course, for all I know, all Live games may have international release dates in which case importing is pointless anyway....

Lots of questions to be answered.......

I admit that was a massive flaw of the original PSO, I sure hope they make the game a lot harder to hack this time! :p

Interesting about the region thing with Xbox live...how does Xbox live work exactly?

I hook up to the internet with Telstra BigPong cable, do I just wham my ethernet into the back of the Xbox and install my account ($60 or so isn't it?) or something?

I'll tell you Wednesday. ;)

I have Optus Cable - I'm guessing you just 'wham' your cable into your Xbox, install your Live stuff from the disc you get with the Kit, and then connect to some kind of setup server where you sign in your universal GamerTag and details etc, and then away you go.

And I'm pretty sure that the Live Kit (which as far as I know comes with a disc, microphone, and a one year subscription to Xbox Live) will sell for about $100.

My only concern is whether you need a credit/visa card when you sign up. (I don't have one. I can get one if I have to though....)

It's worth getting xbox live just to play MotoGP2 online. That's one seriously good racing game. Also for those of you with a U.S xbox, ESPN football is so good it's not even funny. It has to be the best made sports game of all time. I haven't found a single flaw thus far.

have used xbox live a lot now and it works great and is easy to use and the lag wasnt really noticeable.

The ps2 on the other hand had a bit of lag on SOCOM - coul be that cos it was the beta testing.

The annoyin thing is that i have had my xbox live kit for 2 weeks now and i cant get broadband (sob) - ts at the stage i may consider moving. Sad eh

I am wanting to get the PS2 online but I just want to know how much Gigs its going to take up on my OptusNet broadband a month.

Ive got 3GB but im unsure if this will be enough. Im guessing it will pretty much eat your MBs up really quickly. It might just be like an online game on the computer?

This is what I've heard so don't quote me on this and this is for the Xbox so I don't know how much it will help you out. But, I've heard it will use about 500Mb on your download limit each month if you play it a fair bit.

Great - thats not too bad. I just wanted a rough estimate anyway.. even if your not right it doesnt matter.

Thanks for the reply Lethal!

Read in the Xbox mag last night that this is correct. It's for about 30 hours of gameplay.

It's annoying. The Cube is the only console not going online, and it's the only one with games I'd actually enjoy playing online. (Smash Bros, Wave Race, Mario Kart, etc.)

Still, it's probably worth getting Live just for when Halo 2 arrives.

How about Soul Calibur, is that compatible with X-Box Live?

My brother was beta testing for PS2 online, and he said it was crap compared with Xbox live. Lots of lag, and only a couple of good online games which were ruined by lag anyway.

What do you mean when you say you have 5 "region free" Xbox games?

I assume you mean NTSC?

Sorry, bad wording. I meant, that only one out of five Xbox live games which I own, is both NTSC and PAL compatible.

Also, Xbox Live can detect if you are using a mod-chip, and will delete your account if one is found.

Is that the same for PS2? :(

Yep. Xbox Live is cool.

Although I'm still waiting for some decent games to play online. (other than MotoGP....and MotoGP 2....)

I grabbed Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune 2, but they both suck, so I'm really only playing MotoGP. (I have the full version though which is nice.)

Everything works exactly as I was hoping. No problems. It's all too easy. Voice chat is cool - definately adds to the experience.

I haven't looked at the release dates lately, but I'm hoping that SegaGT Online and ESPN Football aren't too far away from a local release. Top Spin tennis looks fun too.

I've given PS2 online a miss for the moment - unless something I really want comes out soon, then I'll probably wait for GT4.

There wouldnt be any would there (everyone would have the same). Cable/ADSL barely lags anyway.
