I re-subscribed after 8 months or so without it unknowingly a day before the price announcement.

Its insane, Im too busy to play and complete enough games to make the price make sense. Feel like a lot of young parents who grew up playing in the golden days are gonna thriw in the towel now.

Downgraded to premium for now as I started expedition 33 and am enjoying, probably compete at a break even price to buying outright

Was looking through all the reall good games I played on game pass over the years

Such a shame they got so greedy, subscription is over and I've cleared out all the ones i still had downloaded

Halo:CE getting another remaster, called campaign evolved. Love that is has 4-player online co-op and 3 new missions.

Launching on PS now too which is no surprise.

Halo and Gears of War games on PlayStation. No one predicted that a few years ago.

Not the least bit interested in another Halo, I was into Halo 3 when it first released.... but I couldn't embrace the rest of the series/Master Chief Collection etc.

I'm still using the console, zero regrets in ditching the Series S + Series X to get the Galaxy Series X last year. Not on it as much, haven't even re-subscribed to Game Pass - can't be arsed trying to convert/re-convert my existing gold subscription codes (they'd be worth days/weeks now ? lol).

Playing a lot of automated games and doing the same across multiple platforms at the same time (MK 11, Injustice 2, GTA V).

Most recent game purchased on the console was last night and it was Super Double Dragon (lol at the latest DD being released in the last 48 hours.... and I've just purchased a classic one that was under $10).

No, but the writing was on the walls years ago. Xbox’s big 3, Halo, Gears & Forza is all on PS now.

I’ve had an Xbox since 2001 when the original released and have got every Xbox since, the series x is a fantastic console but I think if you didn’t have one already, or a catalogue of Xbox/360 games, and with the price increases, it’s going to become the option of either PS or PC, can’t see why people would get in on Xbox now unless the price of gamepass is no issue, because it is a great service still. I’ve already got a decent gaming laptop with a good library of steam games, so that’ll be my future moving forward, will get to play Xbox, PS & PC games.

Also keeping an eye on the ROG Ally X, looks like a terrific handheld pc.

I well and truly got my money's worth and Ry009 I think it was said it best one time that often Gamepass felt like stealing, but there was no huge must haves which is why I can't justify paying for it any further. There were lots of games I wouldn't have otherwise tried which was cool but after going through the only games I would need to repurchase would be Manor Lords (already done) and Oblivion remaster which I will inevitably do at some point when it's on sale on Steam.

Expedition 33 the one for me

But i liked the option to pay s bunch of quirky games I otherwise wouldn't have generally bought but enjoyed

Yeah pretty much this.

I think being spoiled for choice is sometime a poison chalice too.

Being somewhat time poor, having the Legion Go and Switch in the loungeroom, time that would be spent on easy going Gamepass games rather just wait for it to be on Steam and play it there (eg: Yakuza series)

Doing the VPN + international sub activation workaround saved so much, but don't think I've made full use of it.

Think like TV shows better off getting subs as a once a month if something comes up.

Good chance I trade in both the Series X and PS5 pretty soon as that's got even less use when PS+ went to shit as well.

Interesting news about the potential next Xbox, could be the ‘system’ to get if it is going to be a console/pc hybrid, similar to what the ROG Ally X is.

Obviously will depend on the price, can see it being nearly $2k, and the PS6 will likely start around $800-900.

Sounds like the next Xbox might just be a Windows PC in disguise and depending on how serious the "premium price" is it might just be better to actually buy/build a PC.

It’ll all come down to price, if it’s in an ‘affordable’ range as opposed to buying/building a PC, can see lots of gamers going for it as it’ll give you access to all games on every system.

Definitely a watch this space for me as I was planning to go PC next generation anyway but I’ll await the price.

Definite wait and see, but I just plugged some good parts into Google to get a rough price check on a respectable system. At the moment you could chuck together something around a 9070, 9600x, 32gb RAM on a b850 for under $2k. A little over if you wanted to indulge on a 9070xt or could find a 5070ti for a good price. As someone who just got an Xbox Ally X and experiencing their software it would really need to improve (and it probably will of they're aiming for 2027 and they've got 2 years of user experience with Windows based handhelds). At first I thought their custom layer over Windows 11 would be good but after just 24 hours I kind of wish it was just like previous handhelds date with a fully exposed Windows. The custom Xbox Windows is tidy and easy to use when it works but the real Windows constantly rears its head and as someone who is decent with computers I can work around it but I wonder what the experience would be like for those just wanting a console like experience.

Though back to pricing then that rumoured Xbox console really has to low $1000s otherwise it would be more worthwhile to build a PC that you can at least upgrade. That's if the next Xbox is just Windows system on a lock platform.

I'm expecting the next PS to be around $800AUD as well. Without direct competition they won't be battling to keep under a price point and that's a price that probably won't scare too many off.

That's the kicker, is it going to just be a PC with an Xbox skin, or will it operate like a Xbox console but have all the advantages of a PC? and like a pc will you have to update/upgrade as more demanding games are released over the years?

If it's the later, and at an affordable price it's something i'll definitely look at.

As a two time Xbox owner (OG and the Series X, skipped 360 and One) I don't really get the point of the console any more.

Granted I am stuck in the 90s where you bought a console and stuck cartridges in it so you could play games on your TV and that was that - but if I can play Xbox games without actually needing the $700 box what is the point? I must be oversimplifying it.

The only people getting an Xbox branded PC are the ones who are willing to pay a premium just to preserve their game library.

There is no reason when they have no exclusives and the only access point to their store-front and content isn't locked behind the traditional home console like Nintendo or PlayStation.

I like it. They need to do something different.
Jez Cordon said on his podcast that the Xbox branded “console” will be the mid range option with other brands making lower and higher spec options.

I don't understand the logic of diluting the market when launching the next Xbox with multiple other manufacturers on top of their own device.

At least with ROG Ally Asus are doing the hardware and there's that mutual partnership in the handheld market.

Whatever gets released isn't going to be cheap either. To me it seems they think there's a market for people who want a PC like experience in their TV, but don't have the know--how to build a PC.

Seems a huge gamble to bank on Gamepass considering the hikes and where they're going with it.

To me this all seems to lead to them continuing to gobble up studios with more timed/actual exclusives.

Microsoft have been doing a lot of dumb greedy shit lately

in fact the current business model for most companies seems to be how much can we piss everyone off while still making a profit via price gouging

race to the bottom where they all agree to be campaigners together, not limited to gaming either

Isn't that how they started way back when?
