Glad Kiwami 2 is 60fps on PS5 now. That does however make 6 stick out like a sore thumb. I'm sure that'll be in the pipeline at some point.

I'll be back in Tokyo in January, hopefully will get some more time to check out K3.

That’s the one thing I forgot to get confirmation of. Glad to hear Kiwami 2 is 60fps and as you said, that only leaves Yakuza 6.

I reckon we will eventually get Kiwami and Kiwami 2 directors cuts and Yakuza 4-6 upgraded to current gen. More Yakuza/LAD games are getting English dubs (Yakuza 0 DC and Kiwami 3 are the newest ones) and RGG probably would want to dub those games into English.

I know I said just the other day that I will play these new versions in January because it’s closer to Kiwami 3’s release. But this is me now after having neatly downloaded everything and I am raring to go, but it’s only December 10th.

I was planning on replaying 0-2 on PC and 4 on my handheld before K3 but I'm not sure I'll be able to now. Work overtime started again a few weeks ago which cut into my arvo handheld time and too many other games I want to play over Christmas. I'm about halfway through a full 0 replay which I don't really want to start again on the director's cut (and don't want to keep playing if I'm going to eventually replay director's cut anyway) so might skip to 1 or 2 when they release on Steam which I think is tomorrow..

You can take Nagoshi Toshihiro out of RGG but I guess you can't take take RGG out of Nagoshi Toshihiro. Have to admit it looks pretty cool though (of course I have no idea what the gameplay is going to be like).

I played a bit of Yakuza 0 Directors Cut this morning. It looks fantastic, the graphics are so much nicer than the game was on PS4 (I assume 4K vs 720p).

I sampled a little bit of the English dub. Holy crap, I thought Yong Yea was voicing both Kiryu and Nishiki lol. Such a shame that Darryl Kurylo was replaced after LAD. He is infinity better than Yong Yea.

I put the English dub on thoughout chapter 6 just because of the very emotional Kiryu and Nishiki cutscene at the end of it. Yong Yea was very serviceable in that cutscene I found and actually throughout the chapter. Of course I YouTubed Kuroda doing the same scene and you really do get reminded how brilliant he is.

I do think that Darryl Kurylo voiced Kiryu fantastically well in LAD, but after an extended period Yong Yea wasn’t as terrible as I initially thought. But yeah, Kiryu is a beast to dub.

But funnily enough, as much as I think Yong Yea does a decent job of it. I think the English voice actors for Majima anf Nishiki are actually stronger. All in all, I think the dub is actually very well done across the board.

Yeah, definitely agree on both counts there.

I think what this has done is made the series even more accessible to a western audience. The English dubs started with LAD and has continued on. Now we have Yakuza 0 dubbed and Kiwami 3 will be dubbed. Don’t be surprised if eventually we have Kiwami 1 and 2 getting dubbed and then 4-6. I think Yong Yea is here to stay and will just become the English version of Kuroda where Kiryu is what he’s most known for.

Same deal with everyone raving about the E33 VAs, no idea what they're on about as I played in French.

Agree that they should have Japanese accents at the very least. This is something that Ubisoft get right these days. Far cry from AC Unity running around the slums of Paris hearing Chav English accents!

Sucker Punch did a great job with Tsushima/Yotei. I agree the dubs in LAD turn the comedy into farce for me personally. Funny that the thing completely breaking my immersion is the accent and not any of the myriad wild substories.

Dubbing is always a matter of quality, so many animes have dubs that are just vastly inferior and change the tone and characterisation to a destructive degree.

Played two chapters with the dub and I maintain what I said yesterday that it’s not bad for what it is. Switched back to Japanese now. Not enough words to describe how great the original voice acting is across the board. Every performance is just brilliant, one of the GOAT series in terms of voice acting.

I'm still with Kuze because he's not the typical meme anime kind of bad guy. He's the kind you could imagine in real life.

All of Kuze, Awano and Shibusawa looked like regular dudes.
