there was something wrong with my calculations... I ended up with the polynomial:

7no^3 + 3yes^2 + 5no + 14

This worthwhile poll reminds me of a question set on a philosophy exam, at ANU, in the early 70s.

The question was, "Why?"

Lots of people got passes for their answer of, "Why not?"

One person received a high distinction because his/her answer was "Because". They received a mark of 100%, in fact. You might have some idea of how unchuffed the people who wrote 1500 words on the topic felt.

It appears the clown who set the task found "Why not?", to be a too negative answer.

This is how to pass university exams.

Nice thoughts Skilts but ''Who cares'' is really what I feel right now.

I have no expectations that anyone would feel anything. Just a meaningless anecdote, in keeping with the tone of this thread. Sorry to hear that you're mad.

Edit: There was a word "mad" at the end of your post when I quoted it, which doesn't appear in the published version. I'm confused. Situation normal.

Got you CharlieG. At least that means I'm not going mad. Not on this issue anyway.

Ask a politician - this is what you'd hear

'In the fullness of time and notwithstanding community concerns an answer to the affirmative may,or may not be in the best interests of our countrys trafe deficit.

Conversely an answer to the neagtive could be counter productive to the unemployment rate, the value of the aussie dollar and to the color of my socks.
Therefore Mr Speaker without further eluci
dation on the implication of either a posiive or negative response from this member, i must consult my astrologist before casting my vote.Whne further advised as to the state of uranus,i will be better positioned to vote with full conscience.

You can't answer a question with a question. The person who answered "Why not?" deserved to fail. An answer of "because" is a much better answer as it actually answers the question.
