Its the name that Bucky Cunningham said when they announced the Port name and jumpers. I remember he explained the "power" moniker as they wanted a name that would flow on from Port so they thought Power was a good choice hence Port Power, just because the club decided to change dont blame people about that, I still hear the Kangaroos being called North Melbourne.

I really dont see what the big deal is about the whole thing. I also say Port Magpies whats the big deal ???? Your mob label us as "the crows", in fact I have never see a port supporter call us Adelaide which is our name.

I guess it all comes down to this need to try and associate yourselves with those SANFL premierships which mean didly squat now that your in the big league. Most of the football fans in Melbourne couldnt even name all the SANFL teams, just like I dont know half of the WAFL teams, it isnt the equivallent of the AFL and arguably never has been. Outside of this state the SANFL and what happened/happens in it doesnt add legitimacy to your team, its what happens now that really counts. Let the maggies have them and acknowledge them because thats the only place they will really have any value.

I have no problem at all if people call us Port Power. Its when people try and use that as the name of our club whether its just fishing or just being uneducated thats the problem. We arent the Port Power Football Club. Weve never been called that and the club has never wanted us called that. Yeah we had Port Power on the logo, so what. Every club had the club name followed by the nickname on the logo, but you dont hear people going around saying "Adelaide Crows Footy Club" or "Melbourne Demons Footy Club". So there was never a problem with people saying Port Power, its when the media and everyone started calling us Port Power Football Club that the club decided to say something.
