What's he like defensively?
Great from what I've seen. Hard tackler, consistently applies pressure and, despite his small stature, he's tough. His kicking is woeful like his dad, but hands good. Biggest issue I've noticed in his AFL and VFL games is that he's a very selfish player. Tries to take on way too much responsibility, and finds himself getting caught out or missing easier targets as a result.

On ability he's easily AFL standard, just needs to work on recognising he doesn't have to take on half the opposition at once. With Lipinski almost certainly gone, he's probably next into the side if Libba or Dunkley go down, as both are fantastic defensive players with West being the logical replacement.

Seeing rumours popping up that you're chasing Rhylee West, who does nothing to address those 3 areas
It depends on whether we're planning on playing him forward or in the midfield. He fills my "small forward" need (well, assuming he kicks goals.....).

He's great for forward pressure, but honestly think he's wasted outside the centre square. Not much to his forward craft to be honest

He's like an undeveloped Jack Viney.
Hard as hell, good hands, iffy kicking, excellent tackler. Dominates VFL but hasn't had much consistent opportunity at AFL level.

1. Defensively minded midfielders
2. Small defenders/half back
3. Cheap, mature aged key defender

If Francis sticks around, won’t be surprised if he’s swung back in times of crisis.

When he was playing against KPP’s, he appeared to do a reasonable job despite often being undersized.

I feel more inclined to agree with Ants list.

I don't think this list has really changed.

The small backs role should be offset by Kelly whom is ‘only’ 26, so could still have 5 years of decent football in him to play on the dangerous stalls.

I think runners and decent ball users are what we are missing. A bigger bodied mid to develop would be nice but can be had late if not through the rookie draft.

The small forwards thing needs to be addressed by the addition of at least one this year imho. Despite the Davey twins possibly coming next year.

Fwiw; my 3 glaring list needs for EFC ADE;

Run and carry with good ball use
Marking power as a half forward (ability to be a goal a game HF would be great)
Bigger bodied inside mid to develop finally

I see Kelly as an upgrade on Gleeson, but Gleeson played in the final with only one small/medium back unavailable. If a second one had been unavailable we'd have had to play Guelfi or Cahill down back (shudder), or McGrath which would be a waste. I think Kelly is a good pickup, but we definitely need a minimum of one more smallish defender as depth and development.
