I only watch SVU and Criminal Intent so there are probably 50 I'm forgetting.

SVU has a few advantages over CI.

Firstly, it has 2 characters who are exceptional. Benson and Stabler are fantastic and we have mostly been spared the cliched 'will they or wont they' storyline.

Secondly, the DA's are given more screen time. We get to see them interacting with city politicos and judges. This gives a respite from the sometimes monotonous detective work.

Thirdly, the show delves into political issues usually through very unsubtle allegorical storylines. Still, it's thought provoking to see PATRIOT ACT issues impact on common police work. CI doesnt really get involved in this.

Criminal Intent has one thing going for it over SVU: Vincent D'Onforio. He's one of the best characters on TV. He is able to play a highly eccentric character without descending into absurdity or the comical. The show really struggles when they get that ******* from Sex and the City to sub in for Goren. That sleaze doesnt command the same moral kinship from the viewer that Goren, Stabler or Benson draw.

SVU is probably the best one, but I haven't seen the original at it's best either and it hasn't been on for a while. CI is pretty good as well Vincent D'Onofrio is great and the show generally ahs good cases.

It's interesting what you say about the whole Stabler/Benson thing. If you've ever been to an SVU forum nearly all the people are desperate for them to hook up (they call it shipping). I find it incredibly annoying, because to me when you have shows with lead a lead male and female character who are closeish, it adds to the show. I just think they all think it'd be good becuse maybe that what they want out of the show, but seriously how the **** would a show like SVU operate if the lead characters were together??

Sorry people had to vent!

SVU all the way!!!
It's really the only one of the Law & Order series I watch. I just find the stories so intruging & different compared to the other L&O cases. & I love the members of the SVU team; Benson, Stabler, Munch, Fin, Novak etc.

Yeah, I recon SVU is the best of the lot. :thumbsu:

Agree with most of the stuff re: SVU, but I couldn't disagree more violently re: D'Onforio.

There has not been a worse over-actor on TV for some time. Which is strange, because he's actually been decent throughout his career.

I particularly love the unnecessary head-tilts that he uses so incessantly.

We'll have to disagree. he is the centerpiece of the show, and does it well. If he slides into overracting ocasionally, then its to be expected.

SVU is great!

Does anyone remember that episode with a crazy female lawyer for a rich family who was in love with her boss.

She ends up trying to kill herself and then at the last minute she drags him over the side of the building as well.

Great episode:thumbsu:

You mean that ******* from Law & Order? :p

Watch seasons 1-5 ;)

But yes, agree on SVU being the best of the stable.

It shows:-

That `*******` is Chris Noth.

In CI he is reprising the role of Detective Mike Logan - a role he played in the original Law and Order series from 1990 to 1995.

I was a never a big fan of the original L&O, and it mostly had to do with the '*******' Det. Mike Logan. Wasn't one of the great TV characters of the last 50 years, which is why I was terribly disappointed he returned to CI. It's made a CI a very hit & miss affair for me, so I skip every second week. But I did watch his first season in CI because his partner was Annabella Sciorra, who is an actress I've always liked.
SVU is my favourite L&O series, and has been since episode 1, one of the very best opening episodes I can remember. It's a shame the Michelle Hurd character was kicked out after only one season, but she was replaced by Fin so that's not too bad. All the characters are great, Benson & Stabler in particular who work so well together.

Probably seasons 2-5 of the original.

First season of Criminal Intent was great but now it has become a parody of itself.

Can't stand SVU. The stories are terribly unrealistic and it has a distinct anti-male bias which becomes annoying after a while (For example nearly all the judges and lawyers are usually female and attractive). In the real world most cops and lawyers are males which is why I like the original as it doesn't try and be politically correct most of the time.

I prefer CI as Goran is a great character, although his story is wearing a bit thin. Eames can also be annoying at times. Maybe Emilio Estevez should be introduced into the show to add something extra.

I used to watch L&O years ago then got tired off it.

Love SVU but just watch it whenever it's on Foxtel, so I'm probably only watching old episodes and repeats.

Criminal Intent is boring.

I've just recently got back into watching L&O and I'll have to keep watching just to get my fix of Alana De La Garza, A.D.A. Connie Rubirosa. She reminds me of Ashley Judd with the short hair.

The original L&O is the only one i watch.

Didn't enjoy any of the spinoffs.

I haven't watched this show for years -- always used to be a show I'd watch in a pinch if there was nothing in particular I wanted to watch or do yet it would often be interesting by the end.

I thought this was a funny take on it :D
