Your first number

My son (thanks to the indulgence of his grandparents) is about to get his first number installed on the back of his Crows jumper - and it's number 16.

It got me wondering - what was the first number you all had on the back of a guernsey (or duffle coat, for those old enough)?

For the record, I had a 12 for Graham Cornes.

My first ever jumper (North) had a number 7. John Phillips who was a "good solid player" back in the day. State rep and dual premiership player.
My first duffle coat number was number 4. David Marsh who was a brilliant rover from those days but alas injury prone. Had many more after that until I eventually ran out room due to the amount of badges on it.
My first Crows jumper had(has) a number 3 on it. I didn't wear it from 1993-1995 and started wearing it again in 1996.

I had a 19 Geoff Linke. Superstar Panther for those of you not in the know about the club that hasn't won a premiership since the year before I was born (1964). Come back Geoff, come back Kerls.....

I had a Sturt jumper bearing number 8 - Paul Bagshaw

First number I wore playing - 18*. I'm thinking Graham Johncock more than Wayne Carey


* Of course in those days at school, the jumper numbers went sequentially 1-18 (plus the bench) so I've often felt like that made me "last boy picked"

I had a Magpies number 12 on my duffle coat-Bruce Abernethy. Meant my nickname through high school was Bruce though. Ahhhhhh those were the days.

First number on a crows gurnsey was in 1996 for McLeod... my favourite player for ages... didnt get to wear that number for school though, wore 26 in honour of Bickley

before that it was only school gurnseys and i had 18 in my first season as an 8 year old, was more concerned over who wore it for the mighty roosters back then than adelaide... then moved onto the most wanted number back in 93... 6, helped Dad was team manager.

Never had a number on my Crows top but for school footy I had number 7 now I wear number 37, not for any particular reason, was just one of the last choices left.

To be honest but, i did play one full game of AFL and I cant remember what number I wore.

I can still remember the horror I felt when after I had made my area's SAPSSASA football side and found out we had been allocated the Freo top as our uniform, even more soon when I had to wear the number donned by Kingsley Hunter.

This was back in 96 or something so Freo were even more of a shambles than they were back then.
