Was scheduled to play Mount Lawley on Monday. Not anymore thanks to lockdown [emoji20]
Royal H just announced we have reciprocal rights at Mt Lawley! Get this for a list of clubs when I head west next. Royal F, Royal P, Cottesloe, Lake K and Mt Lawley. Pretty much the cream of the crop there. Unfortunately I still have pay at Pt Walter😩 but Dad can shout me that when we play for the Bicco cup.😁

You never get used to it. That’s why they invented golf carts. Hot weather, give me a cart thanks. Otherwise I walk. I like walking. Plus, if the rain comes I find it easier to stay dry when walking. In a cart the rain gets in all the time.
You know what I really hate? When its a smallish course and there's a group of 4, if you're playing a 9 hole course I think you should only be allowed in threes. Takes far too long. Edithvale golf course, is the worst for it. ****ing hate it.

Y only groups of 3?

How long did it take?

Yeh thats a slow one. TBH it's allowing walk ins on top of online bookings that banks things up. Too many courses book out online but still try and squeeze the 2 or 3 that rock up in groups through the afternoon

The booking system works if it's enforced

Probably not the good ones mate, but almost all of the local cheaper publics will let you just rock up and play somehow.

I had a round at Brighton in the summer that took about 5 hours because we were banked up with several groups each tee because they just people on when it was already booked to squeeze a few more dollars out of the day.

balancing act. $ vs play. $ wins there i guess.

5 hours is bullshit. i love getting around in 4.

also i guess at some courses theres no comp (ie stableford) and players will play the hole out no matter what

Still shouldn't happen once you start. 15 minutes a hole i think is still too long and that is still only 4.5 hours

I had like 7 out of 9 rounds 34 points or better ... hc moved about .7 in that time ...

Have had 1 round above 30 from my last 7.... just can’t put a score together

But played match play twice would’ve been 34+ rounds but didn’t count as a score due to being match play

Hope it turns soon

Just a number, two isn't enough three is okay. I played at Edithvale, play there often. everytime we have a gro

Sometimes they even have carts. If you're playing a nine hole course you shouldn't be allowed to use a cart unless you physically require one.

My unpopular opinion is that nobody should use carts on any course unless they physically require one.

There are some courses where they may be necessary but in general i agree with you

There is plenty of real old fellas that play the locals that I frequent. They are in carts...and use all sorts of motorised help. Good luck to them and I hope they are still playing as long as they can.
And good on them too. I'm all for it. The obvious argument is that they're retired and probably should avoid weekend play. If they're old golfers, they'll know they're holding people up. There's a balance that needs to be met.

No problem with that, many of them would probably need a cart to get around. I also understand that clubs probably make a fair bit of money off them so would prefer people to use them. Still would prefer seeing much less on course

First round in a few weeks, played Churchill Park for calculated 21 points over 18.
Pretty tough course for me, biggest issue was I did not hit one fairway really with the driver. Was basically adding +1 or more to every hole with a driver because I'd need to chip out again just to find a clear shot. Rest of the game was okay, not great but not terrible. Find some fairways with that driver and I could have easily taken 10 strokes off the scorecard from that alone, let alone the shots that would have come off based on being in a better position for approach shots. Enjoyed the round though, sometimes when I don't play too well I get really down on myself but this time I held it together a bit more and just appreciated the challenge and things to work on.

Grew up playing this course 30 years ago. Is the 17th still a short par 3?

i guess you cant have a hard and fast rule about carts. like if you're 21 - 50 you must not cart etc. its just impracticle. i hate carting, personal preference. but if conditions dictate then you do what ya gotta do.

generally the oldies play weekdays, and fair enough. they have rights too. i have a general idea of who to avoid playing behind at National, so if they get in first then i just have to suck it up (IF slow round)

The issue with slow rounds on publics is not the booking system or groups of 4 imo. It is simply the inexperienced golfers that are on course...partly with the amount of shots being played as everyone is playing stroke...but mostly it is etiquette.

The amount of times I am stuck behind someone that is totally clueless is staggering. Buggies left on the front of the green whilst putting when the path to the next hole is the back is a particular bugbear of mine.....then when they go to their bag the take out their scorecards...count their shots and mark it, check phones etc. before leaving the area whilst the next group waits to approach the green. Do it at the next tee or away from the green.

The worst is when you get behind a very poor group and they line up along the fairway and watch each others shots...whilst their ball is 10 metres away....then they go up take 10 practice swings...so on so on. Instead of going up to your own ball and start getting yourself ready to keep things moving. It is like they think there is a rule that you are not allowed to be closer to the hole than the furthest person playing. Yeah if it is dangerous keep your distance...but if they are on the other side of the fairway move up to your ball and get ready ffs.

One group like this buggers the course for the whole day.

Do your courses police slow play?

On the issue of slow play, yesterday I played with two guys. One was still new to the club probably in his 4/5th competition round while the other was having his second ever comp round. The second guy didn't have a handicap yet and was all over the park so we would spend a bit of time looking for balls from time to time.

Yet we were constantly held up buy a very experienced (still choppers) group of 3 in front of us. At one stage they even spent 3 minutes looking for a ball while we stood on the tee box watching. They deemed it lost and the guy came back to hit another two (put another one OOB lol) without calling us through.

Anyway the point is that being a high handicapper or inexperienced isn't an excuse for slow play.

And yes, I made it quite clear how frustrated i was to the group ahead of us when we got back into the clubhouse.
