Frustrating game today. Sat comp so a field of 220+ club members. Was on 15 points through holes 1-7. On hole 8 hooked a drive but saw it come down basically in the middle of the parallel fairway. Thought ok that is fine. While watching the rest of my group tee off I saw a group going down the 9th fairway and they stopped around where my ball was. So when I got up there couldn't find my ball (impossible from its trajectory to have lost it) and washed.

Basically mentally lost the plot after that and stopped wanting to be out there. Finished 9 holes with 17 points but then just couldn't be bothered and ended up with 13 on the back 9.

I never lose the plot mentally when I hit a bad shot or w/e but whenever there is a human element completely out of my control, like someone picking up/hitting my ball I can't get over it. The issue is this happens every week. Every week it seems someone in my group has their ball picked up or hit. Freakin ridiculous - especially in a field of all members in a Sat comp.

I hate people even looking at an odd ball.
Seriously its not yours leave it the FK alone and speed up your rate of play.
dont mind people looking at my ball and admiring the dirt on it. also good when they tell me its mine.

for example, last weds during the cyclonic winds on the Ocean course, 6th hole from memory, mad right to left wind. group of 4 in front are all in the left side rough. they tell us to play through. so what do my mate and i do? yep, put it next to them. they were nice enough to show me where my ball ended up.....near the previous holes tee box.

Had a guy in a cart a few weeks ago drive up to my ball from a different hole. Got out and set up to hit. I yelled out saying it might be my ball and asked what he is playing. He was playing Taylormade...the ball on the ground was a Bridgestone b330...which is what I play...ffs people don't even check.

The playing thru is a recipe for disaster, always feel rushed and butcher a shot

anyone played these before? would like some suggestions on which to play
played Glenelg about 8 or 10 years ago from memory

Was a great track then

no idea now or about the other two, I think one of the low handicappers on here played Royal Adelaide recently and he raved about it

I was in Adelaide last weekend and played Kooyonga and both courses at The Grange.

Grange West to me definitely has a better set of holes than Kooyonga and Grange East despite the land being a bit dodgy on the front 9 (would get very wet in winter I would think) might also have it covered.

Glenelg is meant to be quite good nowadays with the Crafter-Mogford changes apparently bedded down.

If you get the chance play Royal Adelaide - Doak's team still doing quite a bit of work in spots but it's the best course in the city by a fair margin. And getting better all the time.

Thanks for the tag Pres!

bombed out with glenelg and Royal Adelaide as both have corporate days. only tee time available at Kooyonga was thankfully agreeable. i heard RA is a little under the weather and not in great nick, but kooyonga is. so yeah happy. and at ZERO cost!

Pres, whats Kooyonga like in terms of course characteristics? is it a norman course, links style or tree lined?

You'll enjoy Kooyonga. It's definitely a pleasant place to play and the club is extremely hospitable to visitors.

Plenty of trees and bushes about (although there had been a lot of good clearing work done since my last visit). Something like Rosebud Country Club will give you an image of what broadly to expect.

To me the course doesn't have the rugged sandy characteristics of Royal Adelaide nor an outstanding stretch of individual holes such as 13-17 at Grange East. However if conditioning is your main thing I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied.

Best holes are the shortish par 5 second with a cracking long approach through a narrow gap and a nice pair of par 3's on the back 9 (13/14?).

Love being out on the course after a pro has been out there using it as a range. Picked up half a dozen of near new pro v1's yesterday :)

Tough decision to be made about golf this Saturday with the comp clashing with Pies vs Blues and also a friends birthday at barefoot bowling during the day.

Disaster is one word i can use to describe my round at kooyonga. just played pathetic, found a bunker on every hole. really struggling these days with distance control, confidence at all time low affecting my swing and putting.

greens smaller than what im accustomed to which means the greens were normal sized to majority of people. dont think i put the ball onto the green from anything more than 10m away. second, third or 4th shots in were in bunkers or over the back. a better player would adjust. one small pond on the 17th par 4 greenside, yep, played just short and to left of it with my approach, second shot. not in my line to the flag, happy. lined up, chip and yep made poor contact to see ball fly right into the drink. summed up my day.

18 pts. yeah.

played without a 3 wood as i found it snapped in the bag. happened in transit i guess.

all that said, i loved the course. beautiful flora. bunkers nice with a slightly orange sand hue. as i am not used to things line pine needles and other foliage where i play, playing on courses with these is different. friendly staff. driving range was being done up with indoor facilities to be available at some stage later. you have to pay for range balls there lol.

Didn't play on the weekend so took the morning off and played a round this morning.

Pretty dismal 29 points in the cold and increasingly windy conditions. Frustrating because I feel like I'm hitting the ball as well as ever. Just letting myself down when it comes to making the right decisions.

Put the old mans driver in my bag today too and think it's already helping my game.

I can see what you are talking about. My problems are due to not warming up due to a lack of time. Plus the mental side of things. A lot of negative thinking. However, my ball striking is the best it has ever been. Work needed on my wedges. Putting is good and that is the only part of my game I spend time warming up!

Warmed up today before playing in my local comp at City a Golf Club. A very disappointing round considering it was the easiest 36pts I have ever scored. I am striking the ball well but just can't seem to tear the course up!
