There is plenty of real old fellas that play the locals that I frequent. They are in carts...and use all sorts of motorised help. Good luck to them and I hope they are still playing as long as they can.
A fella at my club is 91, plays every day of the week including comps and always walks.
He’s only in the last 12-24 months gone out from 17 to 22.
It’s an awesome game we agree, but there has to be so much health benefits with walking that much.

And the mental benefits of socialising with his mates and the competitive drive he must have is fantastic.

I’m a big proponent of ready golf when it comes to teeing off.

The rest of what you’ve raised are very valid points.
Yep.
The groups I play with we have rules.
Ready golf, walk to next tee and whilst 3 are marking cards one will tee it up. The other three watch him hit off and then he marks his card after he tees off. It genuinely shaves about 10-15 mins off.
The other Rule we have is the other three watch the drives, I know personally 50% of the time I don’t see mine but they always do.

It sure is. Unfortunately last time i played it was raining and goes without saying windy.

Anyway, this bloke who joins me starts berating me because I'd tee'd up a foot ahead of the markers to find a better lie. Mind you I'm still shooting 120+ at this stage, I'm not trying to cheat my way to a better score by moving a foot closer to the hole, and my scores had no relevance to his game, I wasn't there to vs him. After about 60 seconds of him telling me off, I quietly just smiled to him to look after his own score and not worry about ours, we were there to learn/play golf for fun against each other, not compete with match play rules against a member.
I would point it out for a bit of fun. Just like anytime a ball fall off the tee is 1

how he didnt understand your position as a beginner says more about him. what a knob. thing is, many would say ettiquette, time constraint (though not set in stone) and golf rules are things that prevent people from playing. other things that cause outrage are: - shirts tucked in - caps in clubhouse/pro shop - quiet during someones swing - cant have music on the course - cant talk on the phone on course or in clubhouse so many things
caps in pro shop??

Why is that upsetting for some people?
Probably the same reason some clubs have rules that socks must be a certain height, it's a bit of an archaic rule. I feel the same way of the PGA tour rule not allowing golf shorts.

archaic perhaps yes, but them's the rules. it's not overly difficult to take off a cap/hat in the pro shop and or even the clubhouse. Having said that, there is a loophole. the pro shop contains caps for sale. Ergo, people try them on, therefore are wearing a cap haha

I’ve never heard of this one. It blows my mind and I’d never obey it.

As paddy said, standard practice. But hey if clubs allow it, great! but yeah, if you're asked to abide or asked to leave well at least they give us a choice.

Why wouldn't you abide? Would you avoid the pro shop/clubhouse or wear your cap in as a matter of protest?

Pretty standard procedure at most private clubs I would've thought.
I take my hat off by habit no matter where I play.

What’s the point of that rule in a pro shop? It doesn’t make any sense.
Last year, our golf club (City Golf Club) did away with the shouting the bar if you leave your hat on. I don’t agree with that one.
In golfing related news, I shot 89/77 (Par 72) at Pittsworth Golf Club on Tuesday. Couldn’t chip or putt to save myself but killed myself in the first 3 holes.
Yesterday I had 26 points back at my home club (City Golf Club). juss you’ll be happy to know that I walked both days with shin splints. 😜

You're a better person now for it.

Guess the rule doesnt make sense in a clubhouse either. I mean it is just a hat. I guess more "etiquette" rather than anything else.

At days end, I've had friends who have asked me if they can bring their mates to the club where i play for a round. Sure, i remind my friend to advise his about dress code and or other stuff. A few times my friend has informed me his mate(s) think its (dress code) is stuffy/shit. Well, happy that they can have an opinion and not be blasted for it. But yeah, if they dont want to abide not much i can do about it

You'd think people would be happy to tuck their shirts in for a few hours if it meant they get to play a high quality course.

Their loss I guess.
