What is the condition of the sandbelt courses during the winter months like?

And when do they usually core?

Is April/May usually still an ok time to visit?
top notch

At PK we are doing some maintenance now till mid sept including green coring. But even with coring its still better than most. (how about in?)

Problem with Qld is we don’t really have dormant weather. Everything still grows during winter. And we live on a flood plain in Brisbane.

Not a good place for golf overall.

I just had my first annual golf trip to the Gold Coast to play four courses in four days.
My wife just happened to be staying at Sanctuary Cove Resort for the same 5 nights so I spent three of them with her.
Arrived Sunday and stayed at Sanctuary Cove.
I played Lakelands on Monday for 28 points. Got off the tee with the driver very well but like each round my game from 110m through the greens was very poor except for day 3. Putting was abysmal as well.
Tuesday was The Glades turn for me to do some excavation work on their fairways. 26 points with the putter failing miserably again.
On Wednesday it was Royal Pines turn for my poor putting. I had 31 points with at least 10 three putts. Some from within 10 foot. However, my wedge game was a lot better.
Thursday we went to Palmer Gold Coast at Robina but it was a washout. The two fairways that led away and came towards the clubhouse had rivers of water running down them towards the clubhouse.

I’ve always loved Royal Pines and I’ve played it 4 times now over the last 25 years.
My wife goes back to the Gold Coast in two weeks from Sunday for four or five nights for a conference. I’m tagging along again and will probably play some more courses where possible.

racv royal pines has a really nice feel about it. Happiness and fun. Park expectations about general golf etiquette and pace of play at the door, and enjoy the surroundings and occasional good shot.

sanctuary cove also great fun. fortunate to play in the mercedes national tournament there years ago over the two courses.

you mentioned it was your first annual GC trip...did you go with mates?

Play sanctuary cove. Try to talk your way on to The Pines, it’s a cracker. Palms ok too. Hope Island also very good.

A group of 72. You must have your group of 4 who you play with on Day 1. Days 2, 3 and 4 changes each day as you’re drawn with randoms. I didn’t mind that as it puts you out of your comfort zone and you meet new people. It also gave me a chance to play golf with blokes from my club that I’d never played golf with before.

Day 4 would’ve been an Ambrose if it wasn’t washed out. This would’ve been a change from tradition as this trip has been going for 25 years and they don’t play an Ambrose.

The winner each day gets handicapped a few shots extra on their handicaps. The overall winner got $350 plus a photo wearing the green jacket. I got $70 for finishing 19th 😂. Last gets their named engraved on a polished wooden toilet seat. 😂. Someone from my home club won it with a combined 44 points over the three rounds.

did the wife appreciate you spent 3 nights with her over the trip goers?

If there's one round I hate, it's ones where you make a good start then completely shoot yourself in both feet.

It's the hope that kills you - when the hope gets killed.
Like my round on the weekend… mostly self inflicted mental errors caused by poor decision making and club choices 🤮

Ouch. 14 and 15 must have hurt. You had clawed back into positive territory after the triple on 10 and then copped it. I was a little similar but blew up earlier. Which makes it a little easier to take.

Golf is hard.

Day 2 of the board event played off the black tees. I was one off the pace after shooting 38pts last week.
30. Wiped the first and it didn’t improve from there.
Just once can I perform when necessary? Is it too much to ask?
Amen!
