After the news about Tex this afternoon I feel hollow :( , and it got me thinking over the years this club have given me some heartbreaking moments, so fellow fans, what would you rank up there?*

*Yes this is a woe is us thread, so we can all revel in our sadness... (not withstanding we as a club will be alright, we will fight the season out and Tex will come back bigger and better than ever!)

1. No.1 for me has to be Mods missing the 97 flag, Mods is and will always be my favourite player, I am a born and bred Perthite and Mods is the reason I am a die hard Crows fans, who knows maybe if Mods had played we wouldn't of shuffled Caven forward to kick 4 and Jars in the last able to kick 5, but **** me if seeing him after the game with the lads didn't break my heart, love you Mod's.

2. Last year's Prelim, I flew over from Perth with my old man who is a lifelong Hawthorn member, the fact we got that close was probably worse than had it of been a blowout, those final moments where if only we had hit Danger on the lead, if only Danger had tapped it down to Sloane who was on his own rather than try to take Stratton on, if only Sloaney had the ball he would of seen Bernie all alone in front of goal, the what ifs, It almost bought me to tears at the end...

I imagine the 93 Prelim loss would sit in the gut of a lot of our older fan's, I was 10 at the time and this is only really when I started to follow the crows.

And surely now with a bullet, Our great white mulleted hope goes down with a season ending knee, who would want to be a Crows fan :(

So what is it fellow fans??

seeing modra on the sidelines with tears in his eyes with a couple mins to go in the 1997 grand final. they were tears of joy, but my heart broke for him. he should have been there.

The camera panning over to Modra in the 97 Grand Final was probably the most emotional moment I've ever had watching footy. So many mixed feelings that day. The sheer elation of winning a Grand Final but the sadness in knowing our greatest ever forward didn't get a medal.

  • 1993 Preliminary Final - we had it won, but still managed to find a way to lose it
  • 1996 Season - We had the team to go top, but a string of injuries just kept holding us back, fortunately someone came along and sorted it out the following year
  • 2002 Preliminary Final - it all just fell apart, always thought we would have beaten Brisbane that year too
  • 2003 Semi Final - We lost one that we should of won and they went on to win it
  • 2005 Preliminary Final - went asleep after half time and never recovered against a team we beat away 3 weeks earlier
  • 2012 Preliminary Final - so close
  • Shaun Rehn's Slip on the centre mat
  • Matthew Robran's broken leg (you could just see how much pain he was in)
  • Andrew Jarman being delisted, the next year after he was robbed of the B&F by Matthew Connell

This....railroaded our season before it started...and I suspect history will repeat here. You cannot lose your two gun forwards at the same time and hope to improve on the previous year. 2005 and 6 prelims were the hardest to take most recently. I was at last years prelim and never felt like we were destined to win.

We shouldve won a flag in 2005/06. Retrospective heartbreak.

Single moment - after that SF loss to Collingwood in 09...

I've never been so high then so low in what felt like a few seconds. Tippett kicking that ridiculous goal... only to be snuffed out by none other than Jack Anthony.

In 2009 we were as good a chance as ever to win a flag, and had massive, massive momentum. Easily my most heart-breaking loss because we were storming towards that GF. The only time I hadn't prepared myself for a season to be over, because I was convinced it wouldnt end that night...

Totally forgot about that (selective memory much :p) Yep, that night is up there with the worst.

'06 Pre Lim hurt.. Remember not leaving my seat sitting in an empty stadium absolutely shattered..

Trent Hentschel double knee reco. was really starting to show what he was capable off. Then the port fans spitting at him as he got stretchered off around the ground (will never forgive them for that and never forgive them for that!!)

Wow. Pretty harsh if true. I remember that game and it certainly ended Hentschels career unfortunately. It looked pretty bad. I also remember Grays injury last year which was probably the most sickening knee injury I've seen. But he's up and about now and I'm sure Tex will be back bigger and stronger next year so keep your heads up.

2006 Prelim takes the cake.

There were others - 1993 Prelim (still a young club though), 2002 Prelim (didn't think we'd win), 2009 Semi (we didn't have the team to beat Geelong or St Kilda anyway), 2012 Prelim (thought we were no chance and was proud).

But the 2006 Prelim... we would have beaten Sydney the following week.

All prelims especially last yr, any lost prelim is a massive opportunity missed.

Out of interest what is our record in Prelims? I'd imagine something like 2-6?

And everyone of them seemed to be in cruel circumstances. ...

  • 2005 and 2006 prelims... we were so damn close on both occasions, we would have won the week after, too...
  • 2009 semi - RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!!!!
  • 2012 prelim - this is why Hawthorn is the team I hate the most. They are just so goddamn annoying at the worst times...
  • 2013 Round 5... Oh Tex :(
