my vote brings it to 50/50 haha....either way your going to get alot of points noone can really tell who will get more in the long run
gabllet will score higher but might miss more games whereas bartel=mr consistent

This is probably the best advice I've heard all year.

Everyone listen to this genius and take it on board!

I think the results of the poll so far show how pointless asking a question like this is.

Ablett as mentioned probably has more scoring potential, but is also more likely to have injury niggles and miss a few weeks, which makes it about even.

Both will serve you well throughout the year, so just go with your gut.

Bartel averaged 2.0 points more than Ablett, factoring in the missing games, so ideally you could pick either player and you're most likely still to come off with a winner.

obviously you would pick ablett from that statistic. that is 44 more points for the season including injuries and you should have an emergency playing when he missed those games so it makes up for it and ablett is better captain as he averaged more when he played and he is not injury prone.

If Ablett doesnt get injured he will score more. Question is whether he will miss a few weeks through injury or not.
I'm personally going Ablett because I think he will blitz it this year. He is going to come out breathing fire after being screwed out of a Brownlow and Geelong losing to Hawks. He's got a point to prove, and he's the best player going round. I'm hoping he doesnt get injured, as he is capable of a massive score and average.

Went with bartel figure ablett will miss one or two games somewhere along the line.

Poll results really say it all - there's really nothing between them. Ablett puts together some massive scores, but also gets tagged every week. Bartel just racks up the tackles and touches like it's going out of fashion. Either way you're paying premium prices for an absolute gun who'll be your captain more weeks than not.

This is something where I don't really have solid logical reasoning. Just a feeling I have.

All three have runs on the board. I just love Corey and love having him in my team, and love convincing myself that he will outscore A + B even if I can't given a legitimate reason why.

Haha, seriously? Like, you're not even kidding? Righto...

I would give the nod to Ablett only because he seems to have a point to prove this year and barring injury I can see his numbers improving a bit from last year. But for the purpose of DT I will be having both in my team.

Sorry to go slightly off topic but if Selwood is okay from his knock on the weekend would he be a good enabler to start with & then upgrade to Gablett or Bartel?

I don't think it really matters which one you put in.

The better question is do you fork out the $1 million to get them both? Is it really as expensive as it looks when you are going to get around 350 points (one as captain) between them a week?

There's really not a whole lot of point in upgrading a player like Selwood (I assume we're talking about Joel?), there aren't enough trades. Ideally, Selwood is the kind of player you'd buy from the start and keep 'til the end. Use all of the trades downgrading your lower priced players once they've made their money and then upgrade the cheaper players you have left over.

Thanks, I'll take that on board :thumbsu:

To Budda.
I guess it depends on your strategy.

Personally, I know that I will want both of these players in my team at some stage throughout the season anyway. So I may as well get them now and get the benefit of their points from round 1. It solves my captain problem and it also saves me upgrade trades later in the year.

But I can understand the logic of those who look for lower prices mids and aim to make cash on them before trading up to the premiums.

I guess it depends if you want to win the car or win your league !

I don't see why you can't have both of them. At the moment I have Corey and Bartel in my team but I am still obviously tossing up between A and B. Also, people should not assume Bartel will not get injured or tagged or that Ablett will get injured (Do assume he will be tagged tho because he is the best player in the AFL).

The early potential rookie upgrades could help with selecting two of ABC if you have a couple 75k players on your bench like me (4th ruck is an obvious one).

GoNickGill - people arnt assuming ablett will get injured, they are just acknowledging its more likely than bartel getting injured, so theyve gone with him.

Having both is way to top heavy IMO but thats just me.

Yeah, but lots of people have A/B and Swan or another mid around that price. Or they have Pav or Cox or some other player in the mid-high 400s. Is it really that ludicrous to spend another 50 or so and get another contender for number 1 in the comp?

The only reason I have the opportunity to get A or B is because recently I have decided to swap Lucas for Skipworth, Ottens for McIntosh and Yarran for W.Thompson, which enables me to upgrade anyone in my team almost. I chose Mitchell to A or B. You tell me what else to do with a spare 100k? I felt Mitchell was my weakest link.

If I decide to start with one it'll be the one I enjoy watching play more.

I'd be more worried about deciding between mid pricers.
