Your pick for Captain in 2003

With the changes that hopefully will sweep through the club, one position that needs to be reviewed is that of Captain.

For mine, Richo should be made captain in 2003. He gets bad publicity, mostly unjustified, but has the profile and the stature to carry the role. Never know, it could even make Richo more mature.

It's not always good to have forwards as captains, as when there is a game to be won the captain should stand up. If a forward isn't getting the supply, it's hard for him to have an impact. Although he is a forward, out of what is available I think Richo is the best option. The alternative is to give it to Campbell for another year and then choose one of the young guns to take it on.

What do ya all's think?

hard to say that getting the captaincy has improved Campbells game...Campbo will be safe in te job when we start winning again...and he shakes the tags....

to do that ...get more rodans ...more coughlans....

failing that, i'd leave Richo alone to do Richo things...and I'd back coughlan for next captain...no doubt about it.

Richardson as Captain???? you have got to be kidding.

Campbell is not without his faults but he was the only senior player who consistantly stood up and lead from the front throughout the whole miserable season. When someone better comes along the club should change captains then, but currently there is no one better on the list to lead the club. Quite sad really

I would think that Campbell will be first in line again for the job.

Failing that....

I don't think Richo would be captain for the same reason as the likes of Warne / Tendulkar / Lara shouldn't captain their countries - namely, there lives away from football are too big to also fit captaincy in.

I would much prefer a solid dependable type to be thown in - such as Chaffey or Torney!

I'd back Campbell again. The consistency this year in a struggling side was great.

I'm with CJH here, I reckon Chaffey or Torney would do a great job with it! I don't see why not.

I'd expect Campbell to have the job for about the next two years, and deservedly so

He has been our best and most consistent player over the last 10 years

After that, Coughlan or Rodan could be ready to step up, not forget Ottens

Yes, I think Campbell will get it again because I don't think Richmond will be daring enough to change it. There is also not a clear standout either - and as someone mentioned - it is sad really. Still would not have a problem giving it to Richo for a year or two.

I'm with you Coughlan 24.
I would also throw Zantuck into the mix as well.
Offering Ottens or Coughlan the captaincy might help keep them at Tigerland should they ever get a bit homesick.
A bit of success might help keep them there as well.

Campbell. Coughlan in 2 or 3 years if he wants it. Let's let him establish himself first before bestowing the captaincy on him.

Let Campbell keep it - He has done a great job considering the total performance of the team this season

Campbell gets hung out to dry when things go wrong and boy have we gone off the rails this year,which only puts more focus on him as leader. However much of the criticism levelled at him is unwarrented, "in my opinon"and at this point there is no likely successor to replace him.

As to a likely replacement down the track i'd hope that Ottens might be able to take the next step but i get the feeling he is to reserved and a follower rather than a leader (stand to be corrected) so like others would be scratching my head to think of a suitable replacement at this stage.

Coughlan, Zantuck, Rodan, gee let the kids develop first before we consider them before the likes of Ottens Chaffey and even Richo

Definitely Campbell. The most consistent, the best trainer, the fittest, the most eloquent, the most intelligent... and the only bloke you can be sure will get picked every week.

Bowden for captain? He'll be lucky if he doesnt get the flick this year he's too inconsistant, leave it with Cambo till Cougs is ready to take over, I have no doubt he'll be captain one day, if not after cambo then later on.

cambo will capt the side until the end of 2003.
for me gasper will then take over.while this season wasnt his best he has in the past and at times this year done some inspirational things and would make an ideal capt.

make ottens vc with the likes of coughlan and rodan groomed for such roles 5yrs down the track.

I'm with you there T-O-O ... Otto to be the next skipper, maybe a couple of years down the track. Except that if we need to look any further than that, then our next captain shouldn't be selected at all ....
