So that we have it on the record what everyone's predictions are

What do you think will be the outcome:

- Will any Essendon players be found guilty?

- If you think any players will be found guilty - will it be all of them, or only some?

For those who predict a guilty verdict :
- if any are found guilty - what do you think the penalty will be?

- will it be the same penalty for all players, or some longer than others?

- do you think any have done deals/pleaded guilty?

- If you are predicting reductions from the standard 2 yr ban .. what is the reason for the reduction?

- what date do you think the penalty will be imposed from (ie last game, date of IN, other )

- do you think ASADA or WADA will appeal? will the players appeal?

[Please note : this is not a thread to discuss the reasons why you think they are guilty or innocent .. just your predictions on what will happen ]

The players will get twelve months backdated to September 2014.

The Essendon football club will get a fine, draft penalties and zero possible points for the 2015 season as a punishment for team doping.

right ... for my own predictions

I think they will all be found guilty, and suspended for 6 months from the date of the Infraction Notices ... meaning they can play again on 14th May.

The reduction will be due to no fault or negligence (they were duped) ... and ASADA/WADA will appeal.

(I hope this doesnt happen - but I think that the tribunal will apply discounts to the sentences :( )

This is exactly what I think will happen.

What a piss poor penalty!

Dank will get a life ban and be listed as a person that no one in sport can do business with.
The Tribunal will recommend charges be brought against other support staff who were at the club at the time
The Tribunal will recommend some mild team-based penalty (even it is supervision, a suspended fine etc) so that EFC register as guilty
The players themselves will get off with a 'stern' caution.
If the players don't get off they will get a variety of 6 month backdated bans for the 'kids' who could not have known better, and 12 month bans for senior players who should have known better and had enough power to refuse.
ASADA won't appeal.
WADA won't appeal.

Total guesses from me.

Suspension to be done by ANZAC day has been my prediction.

Less confident that it won't be longer.

Dank banned for life.

Infraction notices issued to Hird if he doesn't appeal to the high court.

Players found not guilty through lack of evidence. Evidence will be released publicly and we'll all be going where TF is the evidence lacking, seems conclusive to me. Argument will continue for years and we'll all still think they are guilty anyway.

OR

Guilty and 12 months suspension, no significant fault argument accepted for the players. Hird to be issued SCN next, for more serious charges.

(can't decide because I haven't seen the evidence)

Agree on 34 x twelve month bans backdated to the issue of infraction notices.

Dank a life ban from involvement in ASADA-regulated sporting codes.

Not so sure on the response from the AFL. Probably strip Jobe of the brownlow. Maybe draft penalties. Maybe strip Hird of coaching accreditation.

Two years for some players, a year for some... six months for one or two. I think some were duped, and some were fully in on it.

Life ban for Hird and Dank, a few years for the the other support staff.

All premiership points in 2012-2013 stripped, further draft sanctions, no more Brownlow for Watson.

My predictions:

Essendon players found not guilty at AFL tribunal.

ASADA to appeal.

Story won't end with initial appeal dismissal - TB4 will be established on Essendon's premises but can't be linked strongly enough to specific players. Questions about the presence of several banned drugs will linger. AFL, aided by compliant media, will attempt to sweep it under rug, but appeal will drag it back to the public's attention. I can't offer a prediction as to how that will exactly play out because I have so little clue I can't even guess.

Hird to appeal to High Court in attempt to suppress damaging information about him becoming public. If it does come to light, he is gone.

Players 12 months from issuing of IN's, Dank life ban. There may be one or two players who plead guilty and do deals to get 6 months, but probably non/ex Essendon players.

Can't see them getting off on the information available, not helped by Dank not contesting his charges. Not sure if Essendon would appeal that verdict, not sure of what will happen at Board/Coach level - given their track record, it's probably wishful thinking to believe that anyone at EFC will take responsibility. Still feels like there are a lot of people involved in this one way or another who have their heads in the sand.

(Edit: 12 months based on no fault or negligence.)

Think players will be found not guilty - Will state I'd be more confident if the case was held at CAS.

Players found guilty - Think they will miss 6 to 10 matches - All players will get the same penalty - You can't give different penalties.

I predict the AFL will do all they can to get out of it but the final result will be:

Essendon players will be found guilty.

2 year bans to the players with reduced bans for some who actually assisted, probably players who left the club.

If they don't play preseason, then the penalty may be backdated to the end of last season except those who played international rules who will have their suspension backdated to then.

If two year bans are not given initially ASADA or WADA will appeal. Given the devastation that two year bans would cause the club, I can't see Essendon letting the players choose not to appeal.

Players found guilty. ASADA recommend 2 year penalties for all players except for the few who applied special assistance. Clearly appealed by EFC and the players.

Players found compliant with the regime.

Jobe's Brownlow stripped but not awarded to the runners up.

Dank suspended from any sport for life.

Hird issued with a SCN (after 'valiantly' stepping down') but fights and fights with more court action.

Bombers fined more $$$ and banned from first two rounds on 2015-16 AFL draft.

Players will be found guilty and receive 3mth bans backdated to when IN's were issued.

Dank receives a lifetime ban from sport played under the ASADA code.

Hird is shocked and surprised to receive a 5yr ban from AFL coaching. He is then sacked by Essendon and seeks leave to appeal in the High Court.

Essendon 3yrs of last pick in the draft each round, $2m fine for failure to adequately maintain medical records & bringing the game in to disrepute.

AFL supporters generally disappointed with light punishments.

Think players will be found not guilty - Will state I'd be more confident if the case was held at CAS.

You're kidding yourself. In the vast majority of cases that I know of, when WADA (or affiliates) appeal to CAS they win, when athletes appeal to CAS they lose.

Look at the Contador case: cleared by the Spanish doping organisation. Guilty as all hell at CAS.

Dank life

Players get found guilty with 6 months penalty backdate to IN's.

Jobe to hand back his Brownlow

Hird to be elevated into the EFC Hall of Fame. He will then appeal to High Court to have his playing record supressed as he thinks appealing to have information hidden is the done thing now. He will over the course of the next five years have more appeals than a Pakistani off-spinner!
