Your team changes this week

Hey dude, if you haven't already, I recommend downloading (legally of course:)) the song 'Year of the Cat' by Al Stewart. Classic track, and strangely was the first song that came on the radio (Gold 104) when I got in my car to drive to Geelong Vs Collingwood. We were never going to lose that game.

Bomber has already said that Nathan will be playing again this week.

Oh I'm sorry, I was under the impression the title read "Your team changes this week".

I would drop Nathan in a second. He was woeful.

IN: Blake, Gardiner
OUT: King, Varcoe

Blake needs to get back into AFL action or we risk him losing form and I can't see us playing 3 ruckmen so King misses out even though I think he's been OK (but not great).

Thought Varcoe was ordinary on Sunday and has not recovered his early season form, time to give Charlie some reward for good VFL form and see how he performs before we hit finals.

Nathan was shocking on Sunday, but I still think he is our best option at CHF if he can regain some form (and this is the big IF). Last chance this week I suspect.

Agree about Nathan. I'd leave him in and give him another week, but I'd bring Charlie in now and have him on the IC also. Charlie will need more than 1 game playing at AFL level to a) see if he can contribute and b) be confident that he'll be able to maintain some form during the finals. Would send a strong message to Nath too.

Hey guys, what do you think of the idea of bringing 3 ruckman in? I myself don't think it's such a bad idea, i think you should drop N.Ablett and out Ottens up forward whilst King and Blake are rucking, and just rotate if need be.
Thoughts?

Ottens has barely kicked a goal as a permanent forward, King is even worse in that area. Blake is purely a ruckman.

Wouldn't work.

thats a bit harsh he has only spent short spells up foward this year after coming out of the ruck i think he has made the most of his time there and last sundays was a good one for him.

Ins: Gardener, Byrnes
Out: Nablett, Varcoe

Expect a scoreline of something like 16.18 if he's playing.

For mine, just the one change

In: Blake
Out: King

Like someone else said elsewhere, you can't judge Varcoe's game on his statistics alone. The pressure, and perceived pressure when this guy is buzzing around the forward line is crucial IMO, and is why he should stay in the seniors. I wouldn't mind it if Varcoe only has 5 touches and kicks 1 goal, as long as his pressure and chasing causes turnovers that result in 5 goals for his teammates. In all the games Byrnes has played this season, I've yet to see him chase down someone, or run from deep in the forwardline to the middle of the ground, chasing and harrassing the ball carrier which Varcoe has done on more than one occasion each game I've seen him play.

I agree with the German and Winty: In Blake Out King.
As far as the 3 Ruckman theory that Thompson has been sprouting for some time,I think he's been pulling our leg the whole time.

Winty - hard to know where you are coming from??!!

Byrnes has not run anyone down !!! Were you hibernating during the game against the Dogs or locked in the shed with the rest of the tools!!!??? Byrnes chased Eagleton - a run of over 50 metres (given he gave him a head start) - and brought him down in a classic tackle which the tele replayed three times. It was in fact one of two successful long chase downs by Byrnes in that game altho I can't remember who was the other player tackled.

You can have your favourites Winty but at least tell it like it is!

Also you seem to be entering into a whole new phase of counting non-statistics - fine by me. All players do things which are non rewarded as stats but help the team. Varcoe's not the only player to do "unrewarded" work. Take your blinkers off mate and see if you can have an unbiased look!

That's very true.

The difference with Varcoe is that the specific reason he is in the team are these non-statistic contributions he makes. The club likes him in the role and there's no one else banging down the door showing that they can do a better job at it. As I've said many times before, Byrnes doesn't play the same role. Byrnes is a flanker-midfielder who, in a good game, should be getting 20 possessions and kicking 1-2 goals. Because he's failed to do that, he's back in the VFL. As soon as Chappy came back, Byrnes had to make way.

In: Gardiner, Blake, Gamble.
Out: Varcoe, King, Nablett.

I know Nablett's playing - but this is what I'd do.
IMO Byrnes might get another run.

Well, the same people calling for Gardiner better not be the same people who moan and groan whenever he gets the ball.

I still bet you will though.

Precisely why I'm not calling for his inclusion. I just don't trust him at senior level. 51 mostly crap games tends to do that.

I'll give you my prediction - no change.

We know Nathan Ablett is in for one more week, Varcoe won't be dropped and neither will King. I can't see anyone else being demoted, therefore no change.

Going by his recent form in the VFL, could Gamble be included into the side this week? Varcoe's had a few quiet games again and I don't want to see Gardiner or Byrnes in the side again.

IN : Blake & Gamble
OUT : King & Varcoe

Varcoe did do a few good things, but went missing a fair bit

* I haven't mentioned NA as it's been confirmed he'll play

I agree with you there Jubjub, I believe it is about time Vegas brought his tricks back to the big league. The kid is a highlight reel just waiting to happen, could explode for a bunch of goals and possies. When he played the last couple of games last year he proved a few things, his passing to Nath on the lead was fantastic. I still remember a couple of bullet passes he gave him.

Give the kid a run.
