With Short finally re-signing we've pretty much reached the point now where everyone who was coming out of contract and who we want to keep heading into 2019 has been signed to deals of at least 2 years.

With that in mind it I thought I'd create a thread where the Big Footy 'experts' can play list manager and decide which 7 players you would prioritise re-signing between now and the Free Agency/Trade period.

This isn't about playing favourites. This is about looking at the list and making decisions to keep the list strong.

With that in mind here are the players who currently remain unsigned for 2019.

Shaun Grigg 30 years old with 210 games and still capable of playing good footy, been on 1 year deals for a couple of years now and probably deserves another deal. Having said that if we were to go back to back could decide to go out on top and retire.

Bachar Houli 30 years old with 181 games and still capable of playing good footy, difference to Grigg is a recent niggle has turned into a fairly long term injury with a recurrence first game back, which raises questions. Like Grigg could pull the pin if we go back to back.

Jacob Townsend 25 year old premiership player with only 47 games to his name. Found it hard to lock a spot away in the 22 often getting 2-3 weeks and then back out again. Fan favourite because of his attack on the man and the ball, but is that really enough. The premiership medal could get him another deal as depth.

Anthony Miles 26 year old with 71 games. Another fan favourite who has had the one game this year. Would appear that his papers have been stamped and he'll be looking for a 3rd club come October.

Sam Lloyd 28 year old with 56 games. Seems to be in the mix for the 22 heading into finals. Unlucky to get dropped this week but with 4 premiership players coming back it was always going to happen. Smart footballer who could jag a year on minimal coin as handy depth.

Shai Bolton 19 year old with 9 games who has a bag of tricks that could be the X factor up forward in years to come. Talk about him possibly heading back home after putting of negotiations early in the year.

Reece Conca 26 year old with 100 games. After a horror run with injuries finally worked his way back into the 22 before another horror injury in his 100th. This would suggest that the club sees him as being part of the future. A RFA we could be waiting to see if anyone makes an offer before deciding what to do. I'd like to see him get 2 years.

Oleg Markov 22 year old with 15 games. Had a year to forget with constant niggles making it hard for him to show his wares. On minimal coin anyway, so should get another deal

Corey Ellis 21 year old with 27 games, who is the most polarising player on the list. May well have done his dash in the GWS game. Expecting he'll be trade bait come October.

Callum Moore 21 year old rookie with 8 games. Shown some promising signs in his AFL games this year with some dominating games at VFL level. As a rookie we get first crack at signing him. Could decide another club is where his future lies if Lynch comes across.

Connor Menadue 21 year old with 33 games. Seems to be another thereabouts heading into finals. Could be a replacement for Grigg on a wing if he pulls the pin, and with 6-6-6 likely to come in his speed and endurance would be handy.

Nathan Drummond 23 year old with 5 games, who has had 2 ACLs since his debut. Was the first of the 2014 draftees to get a chance which suggests the club had plenty of faith in him. Since the second knee has not got close to getting back into the side and could well be moved on.

Mabior Chol 21 year old rookie with 1 game. Was really blossoming and close to getting back into the AFL side before breaking his foot. Like Moore we'll get first chance to sign him up and I'd expect that would happen.

Derek Smith 20 year old CAT B rookie who has been injured most of the year, finally got back on the park this week and would be harsh to cut him.

Tyson Stengle 19 year old rookie with 2 games, who has been there about at times this year but just couldn't quite get a shot. Whispers going around that he is being chased by the SA teams. Would be a shame to lose him as he has shown to be a real game breaker at VFL level.

Ivan Soldo 22 year old with 8 games, who is effectively our second choice ruckman. Has really come on over the last 24 months and would be capable of doing the job if Nankervis went down. Should be one of the first to be signed once Lynch is sorted out.

Liam Baker 20 year old rookie with 2 games who came from a fair way back to earn a couple of games. Nuggety ball winner who works hard both ways.

So there we have it, remarkably we have 17 players still waiting for their futures to be decided. The question I'm posing to the Big Footy faithful is which 7 players would be your priority to re-sign if you were the list manager.

I’d sign grigg and houli on 1 year deals

Then look at trying to keep Lloyd/menadue/Moore/stengle/Conca

Would be willing to listen to offers for
Corey Ellis
Bolton
And maybe menadue

Ridiculous that we can only choose 7, we are in our window so won't be making wholesale changes
The idea is to pick players you want to lock away and not lose. It doesn't mean the rest of them are all moved on, we'd probably end up re-signing about 10-12 of the 17 on the list depending on what happens with Lynch and other trade targets. As I said it's not about picking your favourites, it about picking players that keep the list in good shape.

bring the thread down why don't you.
FFS just pick the 7 you think are the priorities as must keeps going forward.
Its not real, RFC will not let go the ones you don't select.

For those wondering, the 7 I'd be locking away are:
Lloyd
Conca
Markov
Moore
Menadue
Soldo
Baker

Lloyd and Conca as experienced depth, Markov and Menadue as Grigg replacements, Moore as KPP depth, Soldo obviously as second ruck and Baker as a developing mid/small forward

Bachar Houli
Jacob Townsend
Reece Conca
Oleg Markov
Callum Moore
Connor Menadue
Ivan Soldo
Liam Baker
That's 8, whose the one who misses being signed.

Houli and Grigg are actually still performing really well. They’ll be offered $$ below their market value and probably take it so keepers for another season.
I don't see why they have to be pushed out. Both still entrenched in our 22. Both stay.

Cal Moore an interesting one. Deserves another contract but along with Menadue may actually have some reasonable trade value.

Hopefully Corey Ellis also attracts some interest due to his high draft selection

Will be interested to see if they persist with the ready made VFL guns in Lloyd and Miles or back the youth in to push through

Hope we get something for C.Ellis (don't rate him) and Bolton. Menadue, I'm not optimistic.... mentally i don't think he has that killer instinct, maniac pressure, take the game on attitude.... so happy to trade.
Happy to keep them all for VFL and depth but could not deny Lloyd or Miles the chance to play regularly elsewhere if they have opportunities. Same with Stenlge.

Hope we keep C.Moore. I also think Oleg has the jets and attributes to potentially be good in the future, but needs another 2 years to develop his strength and resiliance.
I want to Chol flourish, but the future is hard to predict with him.
Houli and Grigg and still going very well.

Menadue, Markov and Bolton could easily be at other clubs next year.. Wouldn't blame them if they were given a chance of playing more

Cutting 10 of these players just isn't going to happen. (especially as that would really be 12 given Griff & Hampson have gone already).

Half of that *maybe*.
I'm not talking about cutting 10 players. I'm asking fans to pick the 7 unsigned players they would like to see signed before the trade/free agency period starts. Gives a bit of an idea of who people want to keep and when you look at the voting at the moment, there is a group of 7 that seems to have established itself as the ones most want to see signed. On the flip side there is a group of 5 that are clearly on thin ice.

Ridiculous that we can only choose 7, we are in our window so won't be making wholesale changes
folks don't appreciate... NB. not talking this thread or subfora.
folks don't appreciate despite all contrary indicators on esprit-de-corps/culture/clubscaffolding.... that, esprit-de-corps/teamharmony CAN be fragile. So keeping good clubmen around for morale and harmony can be invaluable. So you need to balance future, playing opportunities, pure gluemen on the park and within the clubrooms. good guys like Lloyd Miles Grigg...

At least 10 for sure imo
