Yze - Dropped for Rd. 1?

Daniher said he had to perform for Sandy today and by all reports, he didn't set the world alight and didnt get a touch in the first half.

Does Danners have the balls to drop him for Rd. 1?

We can only hope. In all honesty, I'd much rather see one of our young guns in there giving 100% than Yze prancing around completely disinterested. Make him earn his spot so that when he does get a game, we may actually see him play to the best of his abilities.

So he got 26 touches in the second half?

If you want to be a smart arse about it, he only had a handful of touches in the 1st half. It was a figure of speech. ;)

Just read the article on his performance for Sandy, and this little part caught my eye:

"He had 26 touches, kicked a couple of goals and had over a dozen tackles and he was one of Sandringham's best players," Fagan said.

Incredible if true. If he puts in a performance like that every week then I would have no probs with him being in the team.

It also says Wheatley collected 23 disposals and kicked 3 goals off a wing in just three quarters. Pretty impressive, but unfortunately for him I can't see a spot in the side.

And Bartram returned from his injury, 17 possesions in half a game of football, not bad from Clint. :thumbsu:

Yze is a star... there is however, a few melbourne knockers who wouldn't be satisfied if the guy walked on water or booted five goals in a grandfinal.

A star who has consistently crumbled when the pressure has been on over the past 4 years.
I love the guy when he's on song, but those games are too few now. This I feel is a big year for the Ooze.

12 tackles is absolutely astounding by his standards. I remember John Barnes talking about the Dons when they dropped Jason Johnson how he was asked if he would have done it and he said no simply because you never, ever drop your best players no matter how bad their form may be. I don't entirely agree with this theory but I believe dropping Ooze would be a mistake, it's hard to tell how he'd react to having his streak broken. Some say he may be selfish and all and whatnot but I think he is needed for round 1 against the Saints, most definitely.

But then again, when you play against Port Melbourne, anyone looks good:p Stupid Port

Didn't Bowden get dropped early in 2004 or 2005 and went on to win the B&F that season (and has become a dual All-Australian since)? And I think I remember another player getting dropped then rebounding to have a great season - possibly Shannon Grant or someone?

So I don't agree with the theory that you never drop your key players. Yze has been a liability at times over the past few years and he hasn't deserved his spot every single week.

yze killed it for sandy...i would hate to see him get dropped
hopefully he plays well week in and week out for us this year! i have faith in him

Way too many Melbourne fans expect too much from Yze considering he's a forward pocket these days.

Yes, it sucks that he's the fourth highest paid player at the club and is just a FP these days, but that's the reality.

Considering he plays in a forward line that has Neitz (70 goals) Robertson (45 goals) Davey (35 goals) and he had 40 of his own - he really wasn't that bad last year considering he was often getting tall defenders playing on him.

See, now that Yze can't really play up the ground as much anymore - opposition coaches worked out that you need to stick a tall player on him to negate his marking ability, same as they do on Robertson.

With no Miller in the CHF last year, the opposition could easily cover both Yze and Robbo with taller opponents, as well as the gorilla FB for Neitz.

This year I'm expecting things to change dramatically. Both Dunn and Miller should be playing in our forwardline with Neitz - and all three will demand taller opponents, leaving 4th and 5th tall defenders for Robbo and Yze (or alternatively, smaller defenders who will get killed in the air by the demons duo) making them far more dangerous than last year. Not to mention Sylvia/Bruce/Green all more than able to play that role.

Davey, McLean (when resting, as talked about this pre-season by the great man himself, should play FP) and Pickett for crumbers, and we have a very solid, very versatile and incredibly dangerous forward line.

Honestly, using Yze as a scapegoat for us not winning finals matches would be like blaming Whelan - they simply don't play positions that are important to the point they cost you seasons.

Sure, if Yze's form is really atrocious throughout the year, drop him and replace his spot with Sylvia/Bate/Bruce whatever, we'll have an extra runner.

but never forget how dangerous Yze can be in front of goal, in the big games you need those freak players that can conjure up anything, and we DO have a few, but Yze is the best we have.

But if at the end of this year he has another 40 odd goals, I'd say that's a pretty good return, and we can adjust his contract to now reflect the role he truly plays.

But ffs, 26 touches, two goals and 12 tackles from a guy with as much skill as Yze = best 22.

Definately play him against St.Kilda but if he has another lazy game picking up 1 or 2 cheap goals but little else then drop him after a game or 2 of that.

I agree with what your saying RJ but personly I just get frustrated when he doesnt seem to chace or ****s himself at times. I think he justs needs to lift his work rate and he'll be fine. If we are to go deep into the finals yze needs to be playing good footy.

its notusing Yze as a scaegoat but simply saying he didnt warrant a game in the seniors last season.

His performances werent good enough for someone who is capable of much more and paid much more.

He was a disgrace to the Melbourne Football Club last season. He played without heart and passion. I hope he never plays for the Melbourne Football Club again.

We should have traded him in the off season!
Yze is rubbish and so is Daniher for not dropping and then trading him.

I don't expect him to kick 50 goals a year. I expect him to bend over and pick the ball up when he's 30 metres in the clear and not just soccer it along for a bit.

haha Its so true! He does that so often. Or he gets it and just hacks it further up the ground and turns it over! Its like he doent want to get tackled.
