I would think that Brisbane are also looking at what is going to happen to their cap when the Ashcroft boys etc come up for their next contracts, and how paying Zac more might limit what they can do with them. Managing salery cap is a skill in and of itself.
Agreed and Morris and Lohmann are both out of contract next season I feel Kai can play that bails role and kick multiple goals he’s contract would work out cheaper Morris likely the one to be a target for the money

Its expected that the cap increases from 2026 to 2030 is going to be around 2-3 million at a minimum. So thats two Zac Bailey's extra in cap space.
The club has cap space, plenty, and will front end Bailey like they have everyone else, and when 2030 comes around they will have big money to offer a FA or trade

Player agants usually build in increases proportional to the cap going up into their contracts.

What stage of acceptance is this?

Please, hes the most frontrunning player we have, up and about when we are dominating, an absolute seagull when we arnt. Him and Rankine can compete for flashiest 1 goal performance.

Roughy is already laying the groundwork to immediately fold in negotiations against Dom the prick and send us a bounty in return 🥰

Did you even watch the clip? 🤣

"At this stage Brisbane will need to significantly lift their offer for Zach Bailey for him to stay at that football club and I've already said that this is their best possible offer they have put forward."

Don't go too hard at him, Queenslanders aren't exactly known for their reading and comprehension skills.

I believe Elixuh is poking fun at what Adelaide will have to trade for him, not whether he goes there.

He's a free agent they can't afford to sign. It's dumb.
Sigh, here we go again and I realise this wont convince you or that other Crows dude who disliked my previous post but for posterity's sake:
  • They dont want to actually pay Bailey that much given their list but they can match the offer. The ability to match is to protect teams getting fleeced, not for players to go back on a better deal
  • Bailey is not going back to Brisbane once the paperwork is lodged and Crows are not pulling out once they've got him to commit.

You guys can be adamant they'll not match for the next 4 months but I'm going to go with history and common sense and stick with you guys needing Brisbane to miss finals and Crows be top 4 for that to have a chance of happening.

If the compo value is completely unfair for a player of his ability, and they can get more in a trade, they will force a trade. Hell, given the relationship between the clubs, id half expect them to match out of spite anyway. Ambrogio certainly doesnt seem to mind being difficult even if it hurts his team.

How I interpret this;

Lions need to significantly increase their offer to match Adelaide.
Lions have already made their best offer.

How are you interpreting it?

Exactly what you've written but you seem to think that means they cant match an RFA offer when it just means they don't want to pay Bailey that much for him to play for them. Different things

I have my doubts the Lions will only increase their offer to match, because that means they can afford it, and if they can afford it, then why not just increase their initial offer and keep him?

We'll see what happens. Do the Lions eat Roughead or does Roughead scalp the Lions? Only time will tell. I have a feeling we'll be making the Lions our bitches two years in a row though.

The only one saying We can’t match is Twomey everyone else is saying we can including the more respected Mitch Clearly

Because we have to work on other contracts like Morris and Lohmann who are out of contract next season

Did Twomey say you cant match. Matching is very easy, it's just total years and amount which you chuck 50% of it in the last two years if you really want.

Also, dont be silly, no one is more respected / accurate than Twomey

Oh please overpricing yourself with Ah Chee is hardly anything to be grateful for he’s on a million dollars a season over 2 years and has been injured 4 times this year already

Disagree he’s often wrong when it comes to the Lions

Nothing wrong with front loading a contract. You realize that it means he'll be cheaper later on? And obviously it hasn't affected anything since we're still able to make offers that exceed yours.

Why wouldn’t Bailey stay when he wants to stay at Brisbane?

There has never been a situation where a player wants to stay but the club doesn’t want them at that salary has matched FA.

If you look at all the matched contracts Cameron, Dangerfield (in essence), soon to be Butters, all are move for reasons other than money. In all cases the team would be happy to pay them if they’d stay.

Bailey wants to stay but wants to get paid. You think when Brisbane finally pony up a legally enforceable 7 year, $10M contract, something Bailey has been asking for this entire time, he’s going to say no?

Seems extremely risky for Brisbane and Bailey should a deal not get done. Surely he just takes the money with Brisbane and takes down his house listing.

You say history. Can you give me one instance where a team didn’t want a player, and that the player had made it known they want to stay, have had their contract matched? History (and I mean all history) says Brisbane either pony up the contract pre-trade period and sign him, or they’ll let him walk for FA and take whatever comp they get. This sign and trade for a player they don’t want on the salary is pure fantasy.
