Nothing wrong with front loading a contract. You realize that it means he'll be cheaper later on? And obviously it hasn't affected anything since we're still able to make offers that exceed yours.

I mean you'd hope a list that hasn't won a final in 8 years would have more cap room than a team that has won 12 finals and 2 flags in that time.

Bailey is from NT..

That's a fair call. He does have pretty strong links to SA though given his mum lives there (who's had health issues recently) and he boarded there for school.

More thinking of Adelaide's pursuit of players like Petracca and Oliver in recent times. Didn't Adelaide try to claim they did their due diligence and decided to pass on Oliver, only for it to come out that Oliver just didn't want to go Adelaide once GWS and Collingwood were options.

Speaking of Morris, I wonder if he'd consider moving to Adelaide? Two late firsts should do it.

I suspect once Roughy gives up a bounty to the lions during negotiations for Bailey and it comes out that Curtin is requesting a trade to a certain big Melbourne club, the Crom will be in a shambles and won’t be in a position to trade for anyone until they get their bearings.

All future players acquired by Adelaide will be PSD or NOTHING!
Only against prick list manager who doesn't know what a fair trade is. GWS didn't have use for a 3rd rounder for Hately and they were actually proven right because he was shit and Brisbane didn't have use for a 2nd rounder.

Does Adelaide know how to bring in big name players from other clubs that aren't from SA?

EDIT: or have family in SA.
Bringing home SA talent like Dawson, Rankine, ANB, etc is always the best case.
Big name players move for two reasons. Going home, or to escape the football bubble. Players go to NSW or Qld to escape the football bubble, so they can walk the streets without anyone recognising them.
Adelaide is a two team, football mad state, so that rules that out for us, leaving mostly SA talent coming home.

Sigh, here we go again and I realise this wont convince you or that other Crows dude who disliked my previous post but for posterity's sake:
  • They dont want to actually pay Bailey that much given their list but they can match the offer. The ability to match is to protect teams getting fleeced, not for players to go back on a better deal
  • Bailey is not going back to Brisbane once the paperwork is lodged and Crows are not pulling out once they've got him to commit.
Bailey is happy to stay in Brisbane, the only lure to SA is the Crows massive offer compared to Brisbane. If Brisbane match the offer Zac wil accept it and stay. That will then call Brisbane's list management into question being that they could have matched Adelaide's offer before FA opened.
On the back of the CAC disaster and the acquisition of Oscar Allen on big money should have Brisbane supporters and the AFL asking what the hell is going on up there.

Every team has a use for an extra second rounder. They could use it to move up the draft boards, trade it out for a second rounder the following year, or for points to use for Academy players.

Why would the supporters and AFL question the list management team that have put together a list that won back to back flags?

Giving up a late 30s pick in a side that's contending is hardly a disaster. Similarly is giving up just cap space for a position of need that's difficult to fill.

This is the natural course of things.
Brisbane won flags with big name recruits, have continued to top up and eventually someone wants their pay day only for the team have run out of cash.
