What is Hawthorn realistically gonna offer, I honestly am not to disappointed what we get cause of these new draft rules where we get an additional first round pick. I’d absolutely love hawks first rounder this year and next year but I don’t see that as realistic, so could we maybe get a first rounder and second rounder maybe one in 2027 ideally?

My guess probably not enough to satisfy Essendon again. From hawthorn side off the cuff if the offer last year was it's maximum would be at least 20% less this time around. When you factor in 1/5th of his proposed final tenure in the game has been consumed. Then you factor in years 30/31 are more valuable than 34/35 and he is going into an out of contract year where he would be a FA at the end of it.

Essendon would need to shift the position greatly, where he was effectively an untouchable last year to a situation where moving him on for a win/win is acceptable for hawthorn to even be in the running imo. There might be other suitors who knows.

I honestly don’t really care about the outcome or trade for Merrett, if he stays then awesome, if he goes I don’t really care tbh cause we already have his replacement in Bewick next year coming so I don’t know what Welsh does tbh, cause surely he’s not happy with the performances under Scott this season and he looks to appoint a new coach for 2027, which I hope is James Kelly, I’d even be happy with Gia whose learning under Mitchell.

This year they have more time to prepare and should have a more realistic idea on what they're after. I expect he'll be traded this year.
