Speculation Zach Merrett

No. That ship sailed.

If it happens it’ll be for significantly less than last time.

Hawthorn making it obvious they’re interested still but also heavily involved with Humphrey.
this approach is much more mature, not unleashing a hiding to nothing inside the trade period and pretending everything was done above board

furthermore, a much fairer deal will be had as it looks like more clubs are involved. This bodes well for Essendon getting Zac to the highest bid

is this the same source that you listened to that said Hawks wont come back in for Merrett?

id suggest you boot them cause your source is making up more information than Jane Bunn on the 6pm weather
Don’t know who you’re thinking of mate! I’ve constantly posted that the hawks were still keen and was shot down multiple times by Hawks supports.

Next time get your facts right before having a crack genius!

The way I see it happening is if Hawthorn can’t get Humphrey over the line, or it’s an addition to that.

Hawthorn and Essendon may bring in other parties to further the discussion to benefit themselves and other clubs.

From Hawthorns perspective they won’t wanna give much especially if they wanna get Humphrey and or continue to get youth through the door.

Essendon will want atleast a two firsts still maybe more but can’t see Hawthorn giving more than 1 and at most 2. This is where other clubs come into play, also depends on Humphreys price.

Merrett going again and shipping himself and the club doing so, with an obvious shift on and off field between himself and the club. Means his value is significantly lower, he’s older aswell.

so there is a chance merrett and pretraca plays in the same team? guess hawk fans were right afterall from last year trade period telling anyone that would listen they both be playing together.
It won’t happen.

Salary, the draft capital and how it makes sense for Gold Coast aswell as Merretts wants, doubt he’d be looking to leave Victoria.

Gold Coast don’t need Merrett nor could they realistically afford it, or want to push themselves to make it happen, especially considering the salary cap.

Suns interesting, would mean they would need to offload Humphrey surely to have the salary and draft currency to get it done.
Humphrey isn’t being paid big money

its talk like this that gives Hawks supporters a bad name.

These definitives, these assurances, its still a strong possibility yet these ITK's and assurances continually get disproven

It's an open forum but continually being dismissive is why no one bothers to deal with Hawthorn posters. On par with Pies supporters (re Nick Daicos)

I dont think Essendon will want two firsts, knowing in the second week of May is much better preperation time than second week of trade period.

The 2027 first will likely end up somewhere in the 20's, if not 30's?

I think these picks are expendable, even in a strong draft. Essendon would lap these up with picks for our club tied talent

Just ignore me because you know you were wrong 😂

Damn, fair enough.
That's a good deal for gold coast.
Hence why we’ve been happy to hold. I’m prepared to cash in, not sure how the club is tracking though..

Not sure how the 2027 draft will work, it’s not as bad as two new teams atleast. It’s hard to see Essendon wanting anything significantly less but I also can’t imagine Hawthorn offering anything close to what they did. It’ll be a new found fresh beginning to see where discussions start. Especially with Humphrey as a focus.

It’s got nothing to do with Hawthorn, this is purely a personal observation on Gold Coast

If Gold Coast gets him it’s less about myself or Hawthorn caring it’s purely on them, I’d laugh.

The last thing they need is another midfielder, especially spending more draft capital. They need to look for small forwards to start with unless they’re gonna spend big on making Merrett one.

The draft capital, salary cap, Merrett wanting to move outside of VIC, Gold Coasts positional & talent needs. It doesn’t make any sense.

It’s again nothing to do with Hawthorn supporters as much as you think it is, Suns fans are saying the same thing. Most neutrals of Gold Coast or Essendon would agree that Merrett to them makes no sense and isn’t likely to happen.

Be more likely he goes to Adelaide, which would make sense for Adelaide as a team and Merrett trying to get success. Despite the concern over (capital, salary, leaving Vic and no media coverage on that as a possibility).

is it silly to think that whoever loses the Butter race may have a look at Merrett?

Also Pies?
Pies are going to the draft, could almost put a line through them

Except it just doesn't work like this, he will pick a club and Essendon will be stuck dealing with that club.

I'll tickle your ego, apologies for getting the one and only normal Hawthorn supporter mixed up in a myriad of rubbish.

how it is written, not just you but many on here comes across as dismissive. See the many threads on the main board about Nick Daicos. Pies supporters do not want any other opinion. That same applies here with this potential trade. Its dismissive

Literally happened with two megastars last off season, toured two clubs and then chose one. Tipping the other was on standby if the original club didnt come to the party.

Picked a club, he will pick one like they did. He will probably consider multiple but it won’t create any type of bidding war

it wont create a bidding war, will force the buying club to pay a proper price like it did with Petracca and Curnow last year

That’s not what forced it, that was two clubs agreeing on a fair price. Nothing to suggest they felt obliged to offer more because of other potential clubs

I think it may just be your experience. I’ve never dealt with it, but can understand that can be frustrating. I’m dismissing it and gave reasons for why.

Merretts price was as fair as others, the difference was Essendon weren’t as willing as Melbourne or Carlton. Which likely changes this off-season if it’s to happen again, take two will always be more likely than one.
