Welsh has already made us look like fools for not accepting that offer last year our only saving grace was Rosa doing good work in getting the blues pick so we could take Sharp but we could of had that + more if this trade wasnt vetoed by Welshnot sure if it be a great look for the dons.
holding merrett to his contract because they want to keep their best players and captain to support the up-and-coming players.
the team then proceed to finish bottom two and then trade away the former captain who help set the club standards to get them to bottom two for less draft capital.
only option i see if extend him and have him finish his career at essendon. only way they look less of fools then they already are.
I'm pretty sure Merrett is a FA when his current contract expires in 2027.not sure if it be a great look for the dons.

If they don't trade him this year, they will more than likely get nothing for him next year.
he would be worth a 4th rounder compo picks factor in the age of the player as wellby that age, the compo pick be more than any team would give them through a trade anyway.
I’ll be happy to see the back of him, and we need some picks for an elite small. Couple of 1sts?What's he worth to you?

I think he's a jet.I’ll be happy to see the back of him, and we need some picks for an elite small. Couple of 1sts?
that boat sailed last trade period.Compo pick would be a 3rd or 4th rounder.
You have to trade him this year to get anything decent.
After watching the Dees rise up after sacking a premiership coach and trading Trac and Oliver - Welsh might be more open to signing a trade off at years end.not sure if it be a great look for the dons.

I agree but he would still walk into the Essendon team.side note, seem the bombers did get one thing right for not taking husthraite as the steak knife.
100% on the money. Was an odd choice taking all the draft capital was clearly best everyone knew that. It would have been easy to spin the story to say we are bringing in lots of young talent before Tassie and we fleeced them for a guy who didn’t want to be with us and we won’t stand for that. Josh Lindsay and Aidan Schubert on top of 3 excellent picks already plus an extra f1 would have been huge. Someone should oust Welsh asap and how Rosa (who I rate) didn’t leave after seeing he has no real authority or support was surprising.Welsh has already made us look like fools for not accepting that offer last year our only saving grace was Rosa doing good work in getting the blues pick so we could take Sharp but we could of had that + more if this trade wasnt vetoed by Welsh
Our best interest is taking the loss and trading him for a first and second
Not sure if it was true or not but apparently Rosa and Brad were ok with trading Merret but Welsh over ruled itWelsh has already made us look like fools for not accepting that offer last year our only saving grace was Rosa doing good work in getting the blues pick so we could take Sharp but we could of had that + more if this trade wasnt vetoed by Welsh

We will never know.Thats why his a fool
Is what it is at this stage as a supporter it pisses me off but i am glad that with whatever happens this year we atleast can trust Rosa in moving the magnets and making it work with what ever we end up with100% on the money. Hawks came with the offer very late didn't give Essendon enough time on top of this tried to threaten the club if we didn't accept the offer what kind of rubbish tactics is that.Id like to think Essendon are better prepared this time around and have a target themselves ready to go for.
When you get a new president and he pretty much says on his first day "We won't be trading Merrett under any circumstances", that was always going to be the case.We will never know.
We will never get what we got last yearHawks came with the offer very late didn't give Essendon enough time on top of this tried to threaten the club if we didn't accept the offer what kind of rubbish tactics is that.
If Hawks came with that offer in the second or third day of trade week a deal might have gone through
