with Fletch turning 33 next year, Mal retired, Lee and Johns delisted, Pears 19yo, i think our 2009 full-back stocks are looking pretty thin.

An interesting one.

He's copped it in the past unfairly IMO when Clarko played him on Rocca & Fev at their peak. Obviously Hawthorn saw something in him back then but they have a solid backline these days so probably didnt get enough opportunity.

Worth a crack I guess, but only as a very late draft pick

Hawthorn's one potential weakness is in their key backs.. Yet they still chose to delist him. Fairly telling IMO.

Picking up recycled players is so hit and miss (as is the national draft in terms the kids). But I would rather take a shot and miss out on a kid than a recycled player.

i disagree with you Sigmund in regards to selecting young kids with late picks. i think it's very hard to find a player aged 17-18 with anything over pick 50+.

If your going to take a gamble on a recycled defender i'd go for a guy like J.Cloke ahead of a Dawson atleast he had some success at AFL level.

Yes he did but he managed to kick 8 goals in one game playing up forward.

Yes, but the only reason we might even look to recycle him is if we thought he could fill the gap we have in defence cheaply. We have better prospects up forward.

So while he might not be totally useless... there really is no way to finish this sentence nicely.

Also, if that 8 was kicked against Bendigo it doesn't count as they were hopeless (I'm not saying it was, I just remember someone mentioning Dawson going well against Bendigo, but who didin't this year).
