Would be absolutely delighted to have him at the Eagles for Hawthorn’s 3R, which at the moment is 49. I think he either comes almost free of charge or stays on the park and would end up costing a lot more in a trade, in the event of which he’d probably end up extending at the Bombers anyway.

He's a tall Key Position player, therefore he will milk a nice AFL career for himself. History tells us this. He will pedal enough kilometres on the exercise bike to circumnavigate Earth many times over at several clubs.

As you say he will stay on Essendon list for a few years yet, (AFL clubs find it really hard to grasp the concept of "Cut Your Losses and Move On.") before he moves to a few more clubs (Schache, Gumby etc..like) until eventually clubs realise they need list spots for new draftees.

Yeah if Essendon offering 3 year 2.1 then Eagles would be insane not to offer 5/4.5 and get a deal done

Dude he's in his 5th year and hasn't played more than 7 games in a year ever. Offering him 900k a year in a 5 year deal is downright crazy. Hell, the figure I put up isn't cheap for him. I agree that he's a jet but get some perspective.

You’re right.

I think other clubs will offer him 900k+ for 5 or so years so whilst your dollar figures are right I imagine Essendon will at least need to match the contract length.

There is something to be said for a club remaining persistent with a player who hasn’t returned the favour just yet - from that perspective you’d hope Reid doesn’t hold the Dons over a barrel over other clubs offers.
