I imagine he will. I also imagine the large rise in the salary cap will allow us to well compensate a generational player.

Id say a heap of players have it written into their contract that when the cap goes up by x%, their salary goes up by x%.

It doesnt suddenly give clubs $2m to throw at one or 2 players.

Part of me wants to see Butters go to the dogs just so we can find out how many of the game’s elite forwards and mids Bevo needs before he recruits a single good defender? And I’m talking about defenders in the actual sense of the word, not flankers who get 40 touches.

I think it’s more the value of Butters as a player and influence on the group

He’s not only elite but is one of the few who leads on field when things are going badly

We simply have to take any and all chances to keep him even if that means not getting max return (imho)

Well to be fair, Bevo is the coach, not sure it's fair he cops flack for the on-field as well as the off-field recruiting that Sam Power and co do. And also we were in Barrass' ear before the Hawks and apparently just about had a deal before you guys came in and won his heart, so it's not like they aren't going for some of these available big name KPDs...

If Zak Butters wants to come to the Dogs, you think it would be crazy for us to trade for him? He's a superstar and would absolutely make us better, I think that's a no brainer to sell the farm for. Definitely need defenders too, but I think you can do both.

It's not an entirely invalid point, don't underestimate hownhard it can be to build a backline. Port just tried to turn over It's backline stocks by picking up Sav and BZT for bargain pick ups. They already had Aliir and Drew plus Houston at the time. Doesn't seem to have worked though Sav did come good this year

He's clearly steak knives so I'm not suggesting he's the majority of the trade but Port were very keen on Riley Garcia who will have limited opportunities in our midfield even if we don't get Butters.

I think at a club without a deep midfield Garcia could play quite a bit of footy. I think Garcia + 2 decent first round picks would get it done. Just don't know how we get said first round picks.
