So was Dean Bailey - but a specific job description would give him direction.
Imo we need someone who has the ability to get on with most footy people.

Not convinced neelds' people skills would be good enough.

Also, seems to be limited to plan a strategy.

Better off as an assistant rather than director of strategy role imo.

Ratts may also be a little pissed that he did not get Clarko's gig during his leave of absence
He can come to afc knowing if Sando doesn't have success as a coach he could have the inside running... Or more hopefully he has a less stressful senior director of strategy role bringing the best out of Sando who is in more need of support than Clarkson!

Looking back at Carlton's last 18 months and it's easy to build a case that Raaten was harshly done by

From the outside Neeld style fractured the playing group from day one

It seems that he had a pre-determined strategy to arrive at Melb with all guns blazing opposed to finding the right balance between stick and carrot and building relationships

I don't think he will make his way back to a AFL asst role

At the level we need someone who can read the situation & ability to relate to all parties.

Clearly Neeld is not that person - as you say he pre-determined his strategy, rather than formulating/adjusting to the scenario.

I moved away from Adelaide more than a decade ago to chase my career and looking back over the past 12 years it is fair to say that I would not have had the opportunity to work for 3 leading ASX organisations if I remained in Adelaide

It's amazing when you travel throughout Australia on business just how many people you meet who are from Adelaide and have a similar story to mine and that is exploring greater career opportunities forced their move so with this in mind their is no doubt in my mind economics is a real factor

There are so many things to love about Adelaide, the city and it's people and it's always been my belief that Adelaide as a city needs to become a real boutique city, it does not need to be as big as other cities but just do everything better, food, wine, festivals etc.....

However with most top ASX companies head offices established in either Sydney or Melb and with the mining sector dominating Perth and Brisbane the economic challenges facing adelaide are real

Salient. Especially bolded part.

Does everyone in Australia despise Adelaide and there's absolutely nobody that wants to work or play for The Crows? Not at all. I love the Crows and there are some fantastic people at the club. But I have spoken to countless people both from Adelaide and elsewhere, some involved in footy, most not. The huge and overwhelming consensus amongst these people I've spoken to is that most people outside of Adelaide simply "don't rate" Adelaide, for one reason or another, and don't want to live here - particularly young people. There are a range of reasons brought up, but the main themes seem to be a small population and fewer social attractions, along with generally poor financial and economic prospects.

If the club has good facilities and the team is a genuine shot at the flag, wild horses won't stop people from coming here.

I always look at Port's period of success from 2001-2004 and how many interstaters or former SA boys they lured to their team and their coaching panel. (And Adelaide the city is a far more attractive proposition for a football person in 2014 than it was in 2004.)

The prospect of being involved in a premiership trumps everything. And not just by a little bit - a lot.

If Dangerfield or anyone else leaves us it won't be because the city of Adelaide might be s**t, it will be because the Adelaide Crows are s**t.

I think our forward line would improve with improved delivery from the midfield. We are missing Kerridge.
Missing a guy who is averaging les than 9 effective disposals a game?
With only 1.6 inside 50s a game?
Averaging less than 5 kicks a game? ??

Those 1.6 bullet passes = potentially 1.6ggp = 32 goals per year. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Playing a shutdown role has impacted his numbers. But I'd take one of his bullet pass I50s over 5 long bombed I30s to a double teamed Betts that we are currently doing.

Quality not quantity.

Kane Johnson syndrome ;)

You must first ask why the mids are kicking long bombs to a double teamed betts. Where are our 3 genuine talls or lynch at that moment. Are the mids ignoring obvious and better options or are they attempting a 30 metre bullet that ends up as a 50m loop bomb. We cannot blame the mids in isolation, the fwd line structure and system must bear some responsibility. Another issue may be that our clearances aren't clean enough, often enough, to provide quality entry into the 50. Simply blaming the skills of the mids is a little simplistic, there's more to it than that.

Where did I allocate 100% blame on skills? I just said we were missing him and his kicking. We aren't exactly blessed with a plethora of players with kicks like his.

After hearing Ling's recent comments I don't think I'm too interested.

We should be a big enough club that these just out of the game players are willing to come in as a mentor or specialist in a specific area underneath a group of proven coaches.

With the current balance in our coaches box let the small clubs take the risk and develop the untried coaches and then steal the good ones away.

I haven't looked at the other clubs but for one our size I believe we have far too many first time in their role coaches.

If Sando had another ten years experience and a premiership that balance could change, but he's not so we can't afford to have assistants learning on the job when a first time senior coach should be getting more help.
