Personally I think that given they have been out of power less than a year it is far too early to judge them on legacy. In the seven years since Howard lost the election the shine has started to come firmly off of his legacy as the long term results of some of his policies, ie, pissing away the mining boom on middle class welfare, and putting Australia into structural deficit, start to become apparent.

Agree that Howard's legacy isn't what his spruikers make of it, and the easy run that they had with rivers of mining export dollars.

And Gillard faced a hostile Senate (her fault). But come on, we can judge s**t like the mining tax and money wasted on crap like BER for the runny turds that they were. And the lack of good governance/stability etc is there for all to see now.

But back on the thread topic, has anyone actually defended the current lot, beyond pointing to the turds they replaced?

There's really not a lot to talk about yet. They have only been in office a few months and barely anything has been passed. The fact that the left are already calling for blood says more about the left than it does about this government.

That said, the signs don't look good.

The only saving grace is that David Leyonhjelm and Bob Day are there to keep the bastards honest.

They have been in office for 11 months and 3 weeks actually. Anytime soon Tone?

Well at least someone is trying to defend them, albeit pathetically.
Who'd have thought someone who thinks the Abbott govt is way, way, way, way, way, way better than the previous Labor government might be a bit sloppy with their facts...?

Well, it was clearly a lot worse than Hawke/Keating and Howard.

That leaves the Fraser govt vs Rudd/Gillard/Rudd. Sacking 2 PMs alone takes the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd govt to last place, not even taking into account rubbish like the mining tax.

Having said all that, Abbott's lot is fast tracking towards second or last place (worst govt) since Whitlam.

Gorton, McMahan governments?

This govt has been disappointing in many respects with the weight of crosses still outweighing the ticks

carbon tax repeal - tick cross

no improvements on international tax (better taxation of foreign residents) - cross

mining tax - should be repealed - cross tick although should be amended to be more like the original in the Henry Tax Review

mining tax 2 - the mining tax should be replaced in time with a tax that works that has been designed and implemented with the states - cross

18C changes - should be changed - cross tick, nothing wrong with it the only people to be prosecuted have been a result of their own idiocy see Bolt

paid parental leave - should not be implemented - double cross - a cross for a stupid idea and a cross for not being able to implement a stupid idea - or does a double negative make a positive? agree with caveat Labor's model is fine, anything above minimum wage should be up to business in order to attract/retain staff.

child care - should be free - cross not sure what you mean here so can't comment.

the boats - tick cross we don't know what they've done or how effective it is because they are hiding information

asylum seekers continue to be processed - tick cross video interviewing and then sending people back to who they were fleeing isn't processing.

MH17 - tick cross, mostly pointless grandstanding in order to distract from trouble at home

budget - failed to curb expenditure - cross, agree it's a cross, but disagree about expenditure, budget gutted income and cuts targeted wrong areas, education, science and research ect lead to future prosperity

NBN - stopped to take a breath and reconsider the scope - tick, cross big cross, monumental sized cross.

employment - not been in long enough to assess but expect this to continue to rise - WIP cross nothing they are doing is going to help this and most of their policys look to make this worse

repealing Gonski and NDS - should be replaced by state based solutions with federal funding - cross, not sure what you mean here so can't comment.

defence - this has always been a basket case - neutral

Work for the dole - tick cross, been proven not to work especially the way they are intending to do it

Not paying the dole for 6 months - are they crazy? - cross they're certifiable

Streamlining green tape - tick neutral remains to be seen if they have actually done that

reducing red tape - I haven't seen it yet - cross really depends on what they mean as red tape

medicare co-contribution - medical care is worth more than $7 - tick cross kicks the poor and discouraging seeking medical advice could lead higher expenses later for something that should have been caught earlier

apprenticeship loans - tick agree in principle but I don't think this is structure correctly and is just placing a further debt burden on youth

restart subsidies - tick not sure what you mean here so can't comment.

union corruption - tick apart from starting a witchhunt against their political enemies what have they done, lets not forget that ICAC has been dropping Liberal MPs like flies and that Tony's witchhunt fails to look at business participation in corruption.

They only have 12 more months to improve the weight of the ticks or they are out.
See my comments in bold.

Also note that you have left off changes to HECS, Uni deregulation, defunding of science ect.

In answer to the thread title, "Who will defend this government?", it seems most of the Tony Abbott acolytes have gone to ground therefore, Medieval Tones has to do something about it. What does he do? He channels his darling Margaret Thatcher and she says, "have a war my darling", so he slinks off quietly to Britain to get advice from the guru of dog-whistling, Lynton Crosby and comes back here gung-ho for a war with the filthy, eat-your-children Muslims who, by the way, are in this country.

Be afraid; be very afraid of these jihadists because you could be walking down the street and before you know it, you could be beheaded! Tones will defend our country and we will forget about him taking us back the 1920's and turn back to him in droves because only Tones can defend us against evil Islam. After all he saved us from being beheaded by those barbaric jihadists who try to come over here on condemned fishing boats. We aren't dumb, are we Tony?

Your not really helping your Labor cause, was fun to read though.

Labor cause? What the f**k are you talking about?

Medieval Tony is Labor's legacy to Australia!

Whilst that egomaniac, that megalomanic gnome Rudd was busy subverting a Labor government, a movement that he reckons is in his heart, all the other impostors within the Labor party who also pledge their allegiance to the ALP, either sat around doing nothing or were duplicitous in the rat's undermining of an ALP Government.

Do you reckon the people of Australia wanted Abbott? Medieval Tony convinced 147 out of 10,000 people to change their vote and vote for him at the last election. That is 1.47% and of that, .87% came from, in all likelihood, the extremist "Family First" Party! Hardly revolutionary stuff, hey?

The ALP had a 4.47% swing away from it but Medieval Tony garnered about .6% from it; wow! Go Tones: f**k off ALP!

Governments lose government, oppositions don't win government.

One way is just enough. Easily better than the last govt simply due to mining and carbon taxes which were an idiotic attack on Australia's most vital industry.

Facts you say, all I perceive is fingers in the ear and economic misology. The last govt wasn't as bad as Whitlam but it comes second post war. Easily.

Not to mention the live export ban, an even more idiotic attack on an industry which has been vital to Australia for 200 years.
