May have missed it, but who’s doing the lap of honour for 25+ year members?

Flying over from Perth for it. Loved that it coincided with cunners farewell game.
There's a thread for it but yes I am. My initial instinct was hell no, but after the weekend (and basically everything that comes with being a NM member these days) I was why the hell not..., even if it's cringe. Too old and numb to care lol.

I think it's good. Honestly that's an effort worth respecting.

A real shame that Shiels won't get up for this one given the job he did on Merrett last time after QT. I'd be giving responsibility to Jy.
Bring in Lazz and tell him to stick like glue to Merrett’s hip.

Bring in Spicer to try to delay *’s rebound from HB.

Make Redman accountable by putting Ford on him.

So much of this game will be won or lost by how we set up across HF to quell their slingshotting:

McDonald Corr Archer
Goater McKay Thomas

Xerri Davies-Uniacke Phillips
Sheezel Stephenson Scott

Ford Larkey Lazzaro
Simpkin Cunnington Spicer

I: Goldstein Tucker Hanson Jnr Taylor
S: Ziebell

For the first time in ten years, can we please try to field a team that will deal with *’s swathe of outside running cats?

With a due respect to Laz, I don’t think he’s capable yet of running with one of the best players in the comp, yet. Essington are on the ropes, shutting down Merrett could be the knockout blow and needs to be with someone more experienced IMO. Jy has the running capacity to do it.

Last time we played them was the closest we’ve gotten in a long time due to the fact we were able to control the midfield battle. If we don’t shut Merrett down they will beat us, it’s quite simple this week.

They’re also conceding the 3rd most from ball movement, so we need to move it direct and fast.

Yep. Curb Merrett to 20 possessions and we win the game.

If we do this, and them lacking Ridley, will go a long way to giving us a chance.

Go the knuckle on them imo, like Clarko's Hawks used to do to Brad's North.

Ziebs and Cunners licence to cause mayhem.
Cunners is like a rattlesnake, will only strike if provoked, bernie discovered its not a great idea to poke the bear. And only stringer would be silly enough to do so and isnt playing.

Jz on the other hand can turn on the carnage but be prepared for the posability of friendly fire.

FINALS still remain a possibility for an injury-hit Essendon, which has been boosted by the imminent return of forward Jake Stringer.

The 29-year-old has been missing in action since mid-July due to a foot injury. He has been joined by All-Australian Dylan Shiel and ruckman Sam Draper on the Bombers' injury list.

While Shiel and Draper will miss this week, Essendon coach Brad Scott said Stringer could return for Saturday's clash against North Melbourne.

"He's really keen to play and really keen to prove his fitness," Scott said on Wednesday.

"The risk for us is that with these injuries ... it (takes) a bit of courage and bravery to get out there and play.

"He's got to be able to produce that strength and power and speed. If you can do that, then come into our side."

The foot problem isn't Stringer's first run-in with injury this year, having been ruled out of the campaign opener due to a hamstring problem sustained during pre-season simulation matches.

Essendon's three-time leading goalkicker was also plagued by injury in 2022, playing just 15 games all season after a dominant 2021.

Stringer's impact on the game is palpable – he kicked 25 goals in his 15 appearances last season.

With Essendon still clinging to its finals hopes, Scott hopes Stringer's potential return will bolster the side.

Despite sitting inside the top eight four weeks ago, the Bombers have slumped to 12th with three consecutive defeats followed by a one-point win against bottom-of-the-ladder West Coast.

"We're just wanting his best," Scott said.

"(The team) certainly is better with him in it at his best."

if wardlaw and cunners back

Hard to pick the second out tbh

RHJ is the obvious first out

I’d almost just bring wardlaw back the week after for cunners
Mate have you seen our side - there’s 5+ that could get dropped and no one would bat an eyelid.

Just hope warlord plays - he’s already out barometer

I would love for Cunners and JZ to 'meat-grind' Essendon. Just for old times sake.

I’m kind of hoping Wardlaw gets picked for VFL instead. One more game and he qualifies for finals

Shouldn't need to be said, but if Wardlaw is cleared to play and reinjures his hamstring, there will be serious questions asked about our injury management.
Lol what

If it’s going to happen it’ll happen - look at Taylor garner
He had half a season building it up and still did it.

How tbd * are injury hit . They say we haven’t got depth but Essendon have 3 player’s from their best 22 out . Whoopee .

Its going to be good for a young guy like Tsatas to get to see real players like Cunnington and Ziebell who have actually won finals up close.

Imagine having Merrett and Parish as your "leaders" lol.
