Please do go ahead BM, I'll probably agree with you on off-field matters.
Especially in regard to 2013. I was very unimpressed with us on a whole host of levels last year.

Finnis on SEN now discussing our $2.35M loss. Add to that a $6.9M loan debt. Working with AFL to sort it out. Working to a strategic plan of building a stable foundation in 2014/2015 with a view to build on that in 2016/2017. Hopes this makes the club more attractive to Free Agents to join the club. Mentioned there is plenty of room in salary cap for this.

Well we are in deep s**t. Just hope the AFL is committed to helping us get out of it.
No we arent.

Yes this effects our department spending to a degree but people constantly forget that the AFL makes 1.5 billion dollars from the clubs just playing on television. Not a chance in hell will we ever fold under this system.

That still doesnt mean the debt is a good thing as it limits our spending quite a bit but we will get out of it slowly.

How much longer do you think the AFL will let us carry a massive debt like we have before they say that we're financially nonviable and ship us off to Tassie or something. We need to get out of the situation as soon as possible and at the moment I think things will still get a bit worse before they get better.

Well after the Ethihad deal expires for starters. Why do you think that moving us to Tasmania would in any way make the AFL more money then right now? We are a 140 year old brand and you do not stuff around with something like that willy nilly.

It is in the AFL's best interests to make sure every club stays afloat and competing.

Sorry but how can you say that nearly 9 mill and we are not in deep s**t, we are that deep its not funny

It'll cost the AFL a hell of a lot more than $9m to either set up a new club or move us to Tas/NZ. We have the supporter base to be a very profitable club but we just have to engage them properly. This will take time, but there is no way the club is going to die or be moved any time soon.

The loss was the 2.3M. The AFL would let us carry the 9M infinitely if we were able to pay the interest.

Lets not forget that a profit is useless to a footy club.

I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure the loan we have from the AFL is interest free. Not sure about the bond we have with the bank though...

the issue remains the Etihad Stadium deal for which the AFL needs to take some responsibility.

Most important post so far re: this year's results.

Debt has this title of being really bad because it's horrible personally, and in a business trying to make a large profit it's also terrible, but for organizations like football clubs and governments as well for that matter, it isn't the end of the world.

A third of our total debt is owed to the AFL, who wouldn't let anything happen to an established club for a debt owed to them. It just isn't an outcome you could reasonably expect. For other forms of debt, you can be certain the creditors have no issue with someone holding a large debt for a long time as long as they are paying interest, which we are committed to and successfully doing.

There are a lot of assumptions made by people when they read reports like this. The Brisbane Lions, a club with less tradition and less fanbase than ours holds nearly four million more in debt and they haven't collapsed or moved.

There have been administration restructurings, other cost cutting measures like moving the pre-season to NZ, our membership is ahead of where we were last year, we have added a new sponsor, etc.

Baby steps absolutely, but steps none the less. The issue is being addressed.

Collingwood CEO Gary Pert fears mounting debts could kill AFL rivals

Collingwood CEO Gary Pert fears the mounting debts being incurred by rival AFL clubs could lead to some of them "falling over".

Pert said the entire footy industry had to be reviewed, and he warned the longer debts were allowed to grow, the harder they would be to rein in.

Perhaps Pert cold get Eddie to fix the Etihad deal and gives us a few Friday night games. Eddie might even have a good idea for a sponsor.

even norf have debt less than ours at around 2m. we are failing badly
And the Deez even made a profit. WE need a few things to happen asap.
1-A major sponsor or two
2-A better stadium deal
3-Better membership numbers
4-Lower spending
Or it could get serious quickly
