Couldn't agree more.

I just don't get this whole argument people persist with. 3 game members, non access members, interstate members, large membership but low game day turn out, family membership which allows 4 kids etc. Who cares, a member is a member, just like if you go into the forest a tree is a tree.

Yeah but they don't count the weeds as trees.

which families have 4 kids now days?
i think you will find its 2 adults and 2 kids is what all other clubs have, but just hawthorn the 4 kids deal

This is great marketing to myself! if they can get as many children along to the games as possible and convert them early it will pay dividends in the future!
whose not to say the children are not taking a friend each week and converting them to become a hawthorn supporter!!
Very Clever!

to a degree yet, but its called
what families have 4 kids now days?
all it is is adding adding in extra to make your overall membership numbers look bigger than what they really are

Yeah this...

The family membership is 'up to' 4 kids. They don't just hand out 4 kids memberships to everyone to pump up the numbers, you get 1 membership for each kid up to a maximum of 4. Great idea, many families have more than 2 kids, and this encourages all the kids to go for the same team. This will pay off in 15 years or so when they become adult members.

Did you even bother to read this? Like I said look at the ratio of adult members to junior members..

Our mottos has long been 'The Family Club' and we have been doing this for decades.
It is nothing to do with artificially pumping up figures and everything to do with growing our support base. Which it has done.

no its to boost official membership numbers, as your junior membership numbers are nearly twice as much as every other teams
Hawthorn has 17,611
Richmond has 9643k
Collingwood 9235k
with being the top 3 highest in the comp with junior memberships as of the end of 2013
add the 11k or 12k tassie memberships. it is nothing more than a marketing exercise to make the overall hawthorn membership figures look better than what they really are

What a load of s**t. When you consider that Tassie adds a large number of junior memberships (see any Tassie thread where Tasmanian residents claim a disproportionate number of kids wear Hawthorn jumpers), that we had a huge period of success about 20-30 years ago, which likely resulted in a large number of kids who became Hawthorn fans now signing their kids up to Hawthorn, and we had probably the most marketable team in the league to kids with Rioli, Franklin, Hodge, etc. It really isn't that hard to see how Hawthorn would have a huge following of juniors. It would also be no coincidence that we are right at the top for concession members as well, likely due to the same factors. Until you provide some actually evidence that Hawthorn are boosting our junior memberships, you are literally just spouting s**t.

Rubbish.
We have been doing it since the 80s. Some other clubs are now offering same as well.
And we have had 8.5K Tas members for quite a few years.
Get your facts right.
Are you simply jealous that we still have more adult members than Essendon and more mainland members?

no other clubs offer it
so hawthorn has been jacking up their junior membership figures since the 80s?
you don't think its strange that hawthorn has nearly as much junior memberships than Collingwood & richmond combined?
add the second base of membership from tassie with your figure 8.5k
considering none of the other clubs have needed to travel interstate to set up a base for survival and grain membership,

Well do more research because GWS do it. I have not checked every clubs but there will be others.
We do it to get more members obviously. It is not to 'jack up' numbers, but to convert some of those to adult memberships. Perhaps the reason we have more members than Essendon now is that some of the 3rd & 4th kids on family memberships in the 80s, 90s & 00s kept buying them once they turned 15?
If Essendon were smarter they would adopt similar strategies and not get left behind.
Hawthorn is in Tassie to thrive not just to survive. We are not a club happy just to be part of the AFL and make up the numbers like Essendon and Carlton have become. We do what we need to do within the rules to win flags. We are market leaders, not followers.

Swans count has ticked over 39,000 according to their latest email (also says 40,000 is still within reach).

GWS are a different case are they are in the middle of NRL heart land starting up from scratch, trying to win over fans from other codes.
no the reason why you have 7 or 8k more members that essendon, is the inflated junior memberships, 9k plus from tassie, from the 2 home bases that you have. this Golden run of Success, as well as teams playing out of etihad seems to stall membership growth. ad in the fact Essendon has been s**t for the last 13 years

yes Hawthorn went to tassie because then needed to survive, as it adds millions on to their revenue every year

Not every family takes up the four memberships. In fact most don't. You have to nominate four children. I know plenty of families who have two kids and only take up two memberships. We might have an extra 2K - 3K child members because of this. There is nothing 'artificial' about this. It is a marketing strategy. And a damn good one.
As we have 8K more than Essendon we would still be above you.

There's no point walhawk, we're dealing with one of Bigfooty's marvels here...
