NFL 2014 NFL - Week 16

Peterson completely stuffed up the season for the Vikings. A solid running game would have taken the pressure off Bridgewater, but Asiata is not, and will never will be, the answer in the backfield. McKinnon had a pretty good rookie season, but too many plays finally broke him.

Coupled with that were key OL injuries (starting RT and RG on IR) and that was all she wrote.

It looks like the Vikings biggest offensive needs going into 2015 are OT, OG and RB. Matt Kalil has regressed this year and Charlie Johnson must surely go. 5th rounder David Yankey has been inactive all year and therefore it's difficult to know if he;s going to be a factor going forward.
One thing is for sure Sven, Zimmer is getting back to the Vikings D of yesteryears. That unit isn't too far off reestablishing itself as one of the better NFL defences.

Who would you induct into the HoF if only one of Tony Romo or Eli Manning could be inducted.

Of course Manning has two rings, but I think Romo has had a much better playing career than Manning.

If you're going by post season then Plunkett should get hof before eli. Plunkett one of the best post season qb's statistically ever. And he's got two Lombardi wins.
Haven't we had this debate before.

If the Vikings resign Ben Tate to pair with McKinnon, their running back situation will be fine. You do not want to draft a RB, as we know that Trent Richardson and Ingram were first round picks and that did not end up so well. You should think about a wide receiver. One of the greatest mysteries, besides the terrible play of Kalil, was the terrible play of WR Cordarelle Patterson. He should have been a star and now he is on the outs. You have about half a team, and a decent QB. Will be tough to make more of a push by next year.

RBs aren't commonly high picks at least recently but with the success of Lynch, Murray and Peterson that may change this year.

Got to like the fact that Johnson (WR) stepped out a bit. Has always been a high potential lad, and he's looked the goods on the outside with Patterson spluttering throughout the year, even if he did have key moments that highlighted the reasons why he went undrafted in the first place.

People forget that Namath generally played either still drunk or massively hung over from the previous night. He was also the first QB in history to pass for 4,000+ yards in a single season.

There is two darn good RBs in this draft that i would happily select in the first round.

Charles Johnson has been a revelation and is clearly the best in-season pick up for the team. Even with Johnson on the team the Vikings still lack a legitimate #1WR (ie that dependable 3rd down and red zone threat) and really need Patterson to step up next year.

I'd be surprised if the Vikings give up on Patterson so quick and you never know who's going to be available when the Vikings come submit their 1st round draft card. I don't think the WR grouping is that bad but I do think OL will be a high priority. Bridgewater has been sacked way too many times this year and another year like this one could stunt him forever.

On the defensive side the Vikings need a SS and a MLB but that could change with off-season moves, so the comment was more general than trying to target individual positions this early in the process.

BTW - there's some serious progress being made on the new Vikings Stadium

I think Johnson has the tools... I just think he's going to be the type who might take a couple of years to get there, and with stability at QB/OC

Trent Richardson... twice...
And Trent did not work out for the team that drafted him. FWIW if Lynch leads Seattle deep into the playoffs, RBs will become in again.

The NFL tends to work in cycles. At the moment it's predominantly a passing league, and as a result speed defensive lineman are in vogue to help counter the trend. A predominance of speed DL allows other the teams to go against the trend and feature a power running game as their basis (see Cowboys this year, Eagles last year). I don't think RBs every went out of style, it's just that teams don't value the position as high as previously probably due to the wear and tear factor on most RBs these days.

Also the recent drafts haven't had a stud RB in the mix, and as stated earlier, the Trent Richardson disaster has caused a knee jerk reaction to taking RBs high in the draft. Melvin Gordon could easily go in the 1st round in the next draft, but the injury to Todd Gurley means that he could fall out of the first round.
