Cowan from TAS won the Morrish medal for the nab league will be a very good player still available

I reckon the Dogs take Cowan if he slides to us, we want run. I'd be concerned about his go-home factor and whether we'd be playing him out of position, but he's certainly a talent.

Sam Mitchell just looks like a guy who had a fortunate career with a lot of things going right for him and now just expects all decisions he makes will be coated with gold.
What a weird comment, he was credited by your playing group as being a major factor in your random flag and he is now fortunate?

WCE fans say some random things

As a West Coast fan, you have a fair bit of amnesia around his influence on the '18 midfield.

They didn't look the same before and haven't looked the same since he left.

If it helps, Weddle has real defensive nous. Tackles to hurt, and talls and smalls alike both named him as the hardest guy to play on.
Indeed and teams have packaged an F2 to move 1-2 spots. Does anyone think, prior to draft night, Pies would accept an offer for pick 14 from say the Eagles with their pick 20 + F2. If this sounds fair, then 24+F2+F3 for 14 is maybe even unders.
Even if we finish 2nd last 24+20+38 is only just overs for pick 14. Fine for that risk to get a gun player 1 yr early into the system.

We can't give this trade(or one without F3) to GWS for pick 15 as then Syd could have picked Weddle and it would be a wasted trade. The Phantoms show Syd picking him.

If I was a list manager, I would only have tried to upgrade our pick 48 to Syd's pick 42 and then if pick 42 turns out even half good, it becomes a brilliant trade, may even save my job :) .

Lore or anyone else -

Can someone answer this for me, because I cannot find evidence of it anywhere...what the hell happened to our Pick 64 we originally had? I know we were never using it because we don't have the list spots...but why isn't it even on draft boards anymore/maybe could have traded it for a future now that it's come in to Pick 58?

Really confused about this...

I definitely see a bit of Bailey smith in him I wouldn’t be to worried about go home factor if Tasmania get a team it won’t be to 2027 at earliest

In short, you lose all the picks you don't have list spots before the draft starts. I assume Geelong only had two list spots open, and therefore if you take two spots into the draft, the rest get wiped out.

This is the draft order based on what picks and list spots teams had going into the draft.

That's interesting...did not know that. Begs the question, how the hell did you guys manage that if that's the rule...given how few list spots you had/how many picks you'd bundled for Fletcher and Ashcroft?

5 free list spots, hence we took 5 picks into the draft. Two of those spots were opened by delisting Lester and Cockatoo, and committing to re-draft them in the rookie draft (so as of right now, they're technically not on our list).

Once the draft begins, you're allowed to hold as many picks as you want regardless of list spots (i.e. you can pick up additional picks via trade). This is why you saw Brisbane make the 4 for 1 (and a future pick) trade with Hawthorn which took Brisbane up to 8 picks despite only having the 5 list spots.

For what it's worth, Hawks list boss Mark Mackenzie has said he expects Weddle to play further up the ground as a wing or forward as well as down back. Imagine if Ginbey never left the back and didn't make himself a top 10 pick with his midfield performance.

That makes sense, was wondering how you were able to bring in so many picks. Seems to be a pretty big flaw in the system, you’d expect to see most teams with academy picks holding off til trade night moving ahead.

Yeah we've seen it manifest before last year with the Dogs waiting until the draft to trade 23 for two picks in the 30s, so it's not a new phenomenona.

They could have traded the pick though you are given a few minutes. It seems they were unprepared for any bid in the first round
they would have needed to trade the 3 picks (17, 20 and 21) at that point, or lose on of them
it was a masterful gambit by the swans and snookered the giants.
how do you trade 3x top 20~ picks in a few minutes.

No deficit but your draft hand for 2023 was still impacted by burning through 2 x F3s as part of the trades. It’s not like you guys got away clean.
We always knew that would be the price for getting both Ashcroft and Fletcher.

The whole point in accumulating so many late future picks wasn’t the want to draft a heap of kids in the third round next year.

It was to get the currency to trade back in to this draft to pay for our father son kids, without carrying a deficit in to next year if possible.

Our concern is holding on the young talent already on our list over the next couple of trade periods. Not trying to add more.

We’ll probably go heavy on academy kids and father son kids over the next three years.

The Giants had pick 18, so if they traded out 15 (or whatever it was after bids) then 18 would have just been swallowed up instead, or 19 after that.

By matching with 15 they at least kept 18 and 19 intact, whereas trading out 15 meant they displace two first rounders (15 and 18). Was a genuine lose-lose situation.

Which is why they should have passed and let swans have rowston.

We're looking for a small forward. I'd say we'll bid
I'd say after the Dogs revenge bidding on Fletcher and the Swans utter shithousery on GWS, all bets and courtesy regarding bids are off.

I wouldn't be surprised if we pre-emptively trade out of the pick to save ourselves the trouble.

P58 was our original r3.
64 was hawks r4 which we had but it disappeared as we didnt have the list spots to use it so we forfeited it.

We genuinely wanted and need Fletcher's type
