That year was a super impressive year really. Such an overwhelming amount of talent. Looking at it, I'm not feeling so bad about us taking Kane Lucas at 12.

Sugars hamstring was very severe for a young player. Ruined everything

Waite left the club, we didn't kick him out.

I seem to recall Laidler, garlett, and robbo all had some issues

Judd retired...
Laidler cracked the sads when Malthouse tried to turn him into a forward after the club completely stuffed his knee and he lost 2 yards of pace... not that he was super quick anyway. Garlett and Robbo got involved in a street brawl that left Robbo with a broken cheek that he lied to the club about and said that it happened during training.

Future first for Henderson was a good get. They had been trying to give us a 2nd and Josh Walker.

To turn that future Geelong first into Pick 8 from GWS was genius. It was 8, not 10. It went out to 8 after a Callum Mills bid and something else.
Mills and Hopper. He also turned Yarran into pick 19 (turned into pick 21 - David Cuningham).

I’m sick of clubs not bidding on F/S or Academy players when they should be bid on, Daicos last year was criminal.

You make your opposition pay for their good fortune, at all times. There’s zero chance Brisbane wont match at pick 1 and 15 onwards for Fletcher.

If Campo's boys come on as expected, we can expect both Adelaide and Port to bid on them. It's definitely going to cost us if we want both of them.

They'd have to nominate as father son prospects first. Maybe they'd prefer to stay in Adelaide. :think: Be interesting to see how that plays out and if they continue to improve before 2024.

They are both apparently rabid Blues supporters. I think that they would prefer to come and play for the Blues.

Saw this trade suggested on the Blue Abroad show:

F1 + F3 + #29 -> GWS
#18 + #19 -> Blues

Now obv we can't do that since we don't have a F3, but it's church change to the deal anyway. Maybe give them #49 too and get an F4 back?

Wouldn't mind doing this tbh. They've rationalised this by saying that GWS's targets probably will still be around by #29 anyway so those late teens picks are sort of surplus to their needs for this year.

So we'd head to the draft with #10 + #18 + #19

+++ Actual Mail Alert +++

Nothing unexpected here, but spoke to a relative of Harry Cheezel this morning, and they were extremely confident that NM has committed to picking him up. Suggested that for NM to trade down would be a significant reversal on what Harry has been told.

Not surprised, Wardlaw seems a lock, Sheezel seems to be ahead of Tsatas, who probably ends up at *

Can’t trade F1 as it stands.

Not only don't we have an F3, but we'd have to find another one in order to trade F1. Plus, it doesn't look like a good deal for us anyway.

Surely that F3 should be coming from GWS to the Blues rather than the other way around? Would be a far more even trade, and would fit the trade requirements. And it would give GWS a third 1st round pick in next year's strong draft. Would have to be tempting for them.

So:
F1 + #29 -> GWS
#18 + #19 + F3 -> Blues

* If we were to do this, we'd have 66 "spare" - i.e. our 4 draft picks would be 10, 18, 19, 49. So could throw 66 back to GWS.

Much better.
The issue is, Giants can likely get a similar level of future value by trading just one of those picks.
#19 has proved to be pretty valuable to trade as clubs reassess after the first round is done.

Thats awesome then. :thumbsu:

Doesn't mean everything, but you love to see it

Yeah, so far simpler would be:

F1 + 66 -> GWS
#18 + F3 -> Blues

All predicated on the notion that we'd value another first round pick this year, higher than next year (which I'd doubt - but we have heard Austin say he wants another pick).

Giants probably take on of our F4 rather than #66.
I'd guess that our best chance of trading with the Giants would be #10 (and say #49) down to #15 + #18/19.

Another way of finding an extra pick in the 20s might be something like F2 + #49 (which will have come in by that point).

The 66 was a throwaway (we wouldn't have used it). As it is, I think the deal still favours GWS, so would not be giving a F4 instead of 66. 66 would give them the opportunity to consolidate some of their picks perhaps, as there are some clubs with just a couple of picks.

And yes, agree, a deal with our F2 would probably make more sense (I posted on this yesterday) - best candidates likely *'s 22 or the Pies who have 25 and 27.

I doubt we'd do that. Giving up our F1 would only be done to get a couple of earlier picks this year (even though we throw #29 back at them)

But yeah

F1 + #29 + #66 -> GWS
#18 + #19 + F3 -> Blues

That would be a decent deal for both clubs you would think.
