Incredible Ed is still turning up and performing at his age. A real testament to his commitment and durability. Great effort. I imagine Carlton fans are right behind him. I certainly am.
Ed & Carrots are two that you feel got absolutely everything from themselves. Definitely something worthy of respect.

Like why didn’t they play Binns instead of Ed

WHYYYY

Because Voss is a terrible coach.

Everyone knows that Binns should have come in and played that outside role instead of Ed. Perfect opportunity to debut a young guy in red hot fom against a weak side. Really takes us forward as a team and he as a player.

Dow again proving that he can accumulate as a midfielder and go forward and kick goals. The forward thing really clicked for him last season but our development this season has been terrible with most players having their second position dumped from their game day program. Had we persisted with Dow's forward game this year we probably would have been arguing that he should be coming in as the forward/mid we desperately need. Red hot and fit Dow over an underdone Cuningham or Fogarty, gives us a genuine forward/mid. He's going to do that at another club next season and it's really going to hurt.

The sooner we find a coach willing to embrace the modern game and coach without preconceived rigid opinions of players and reward form and be able to identify the capabilities players have to play secondary positions the better. Voss can't judge a players capability to play positions and roles from their attributes at all. All of his experiments have been illogical. Move on from SOS in the ruck to players with better attributes like Young. Kennedy had no attributes for a defender when others did but what did we get. None of our players have developed genuine second positons, team has horribly underperformed. Red flags everywhere.

Both Dow and Binns should be in the AFL side. Dow as a mid/forward and Binns as the third wing/outside utility that Cottrell had been playing. Not to mention picking Silvagni in a role he has failed at every single time this year over someone who has the height and ability to overhead mark in Young.

Ed and Simpson should have been captain of our side after Judd. Carrots would have done the job pretty well I suspect IMO.
Ed is the joker within the group. Simpson was not respected by a significant portion of the younger players during our rebuild.
Carrazzo was a quieter type.
We currently have a very good group of potential leaders but not necessarily seeing that potential being realised on field.

Going to be tough without a recognised ruckman out there if TDK has pulled out.

Still think our big forwards can trouble them.
Would love big ones from Cunners and Jack Martin.

Not surprised at all about selection.
Dow had played 3 as sub then had a bye, he wasn’t going to be match fit for 4 qtrs at AFL level.
MC seems to think Binns is not ready, as per the Ebert interview a few weeks back in the VFL.

Ed looks slightly off his best days but by no means enough to warrant the crap being written about him.

Murphy seems to tick some of those boxes. Carrazzo was very vocal on the field as is Ed. I think the younger players might have needed more Simpson, can't imagine why they would not respect him, are you sure it wasn't that they didn't like him? Brett Kirk was a premiership captain, sure being a bit of a joker would not have meant that Ed would not make a good captain.

Leadership has been weak at Carlton but I agree, I think there's some good qualities out there.

It's something we've done really poorly this season and a big reason we struggled for so long - when TDK was rucking really poorly or JSos was in we still set up purely stationary around them OR to win our own tap. Never set up to shark off the opposing ruck and our supposed clearance strength really evaporated for ages.

Hopefully it's an adjustment they can make today if young/ whoever isn't winning their fair share of good taps

Looked good today but still had a moment where he tried to take a speccy in a pack of 5 rather than crumb the talls. Was one of his major improvement areas from the AFL - needs to stay at the feet of the talls

I have no problem with Motlop flying for the odd pack mark, if you've got the ability and the confidence I say go for it. Obviously needs to pick the right moments.

Not sure how Binns age and size means he is not ready but Hollands was straight into the side at the start of the year. Binns has been increadible for a wing in the 2s. Averaging 28 on a wing while keeping his width is elite

We fail to reward performance in the 2s and accept mediocrity in the 1s

Devil's advocate, I was shocked seeing Binns in person. He looks like he is still in year 9.

He's obviously playing well against men so it may be a moot point...but I can see an argument for not being physically ready.

Interesting insights. Reads like you have some inside knowledge

The Ed Curnow’s of the world are not uncommon inside footy clubs and play a valuable role in day to day life at the club.
However, a strong football department, whilst understanding the chemistry of the locker room, shouldn’t blur the lines at the expense of broader integrity.
It’s a fine line and the better clubs get the balance right more often than not …

The worst part is that he is coaching for day to day survival now.
Bringing in old stagers for a "must win" game against the second worst team in the AFL...

Should be playing kids.....
