Surprised to see weā€™ve been ranked the 2nd hardest fixture, I thought it looked pretty good.

Avoiding who I think are the top 3 teams in Collingwood, Brisbane and giants in double ups is a big win and 6 out of first 8 hopefully sets us up for a fast start to the season.

I can see why the draw is considered tough. Freo should improve, Crows and Saints likely to be top 8 contenders and Carlton and Melbourne will be top 4 contenders. Really Richmond who might bounce a bit is probably the easiest double we have if they repeat last year's form.

We didn't cop a double against North, WC, Ess or Hawthorn who are probably the bottom 4 favs?

It seems like a decent enough draw if we can hold it together for 14-16 wins, tough but not insurmountable, but think there's a bunch of clear losses in there.

Good double up against Melbourne, I think they will be bottom half of the 8 next year. I rate Carlton and think they'll be top 4 so that might be tough.

We'll see as I'm consistently wrong with my predictions šŸ¤£

I think Carlton will struggle to back up the high of last season which often happens.
Expecting Melbourne to fall off a cliff now, too much off field that will finally catch up.

Saints and even Freo could surprise but like you, my predictions are consistently wrong.

Of all our double ups I think only Melbourne and Carlton will make the 8. Melbourne should really be a top 4 team but there is something not quite right there but they should get into the 8 by sheer talent alone. Carlton will make the 8 but I can see them only just sneaking in, I feel like a 3rd placing this year flattered them. Looking through their list It doesnā€™t look like a top 4 squad to me.

Saints 2023 probably flattered them a bit too, they could easily miss the 8. Richmond look cooked and the crows might take a little step back in their progression next year as they deal with higher expectations, more difficult draw and dealing with life after Tex in career best form. Statistics and biological clocks just scream Tex is going to dip in 2024.

Alberton actually has better public transport links than Norwood. Alberton has the train via Cheltenham station and the bus down Port Road. The ground capacity at Alberton is listed at 11,000 but I think that is questionable none the less there is no way Alberton would have enough capacity for a Port home game. Norwood probably gets the nod in Gather Round because it is closer to the city accommodation entertainment etc. Gather round is more of a tourist and promotional venture by the SA Government than anything else so proximity to the night life, casino etc. probably counts.

As an aside I was at Alberton in 1977 when the crowd record for Alberton was achieved. It was against Norwood and it was arguably the best game I had seen Russell Ebert play. He beat four different opponents on the day and was absolutely spent near the end of the game. The official attendance was 22,738 and I watched it all from upstairs near the members bar window. With ground redevelopments on the eastern side and upgraded safety requirements I reckon we would struggle to get half that crowd into Alberton these days.

Yeah, I thought it would be more about location, facilities & entertainment etc. The parade is more appealing than commercial rd.

I have no idea why everyone thinks this. They were crap last year and then they lost two of their better players this year for future picks. Genuine bottom four chances IMO.
