Fixture 2024 Fixture

Freo are shyte, and will remain so through '24. I dont rate Carlton either, they are going to come back to the pack. Like each year, there will surprise bolters from below, and at least one of the top 8 dropping out.

Meanwhile Port, ...................... will be Port!

Don’t underestimate Ross Lyon. The Saints defence will tighten again in 2024 they are my Smokey top 4 contender.

If we’re good enough we should be in contention for top 4 we need to maximise our early fixture benefits.

Ross knows how to arrange his defence so they don’t get slaughtered to often.
Once they hit a team that has some bite up forward it’s all over for them.
They are no hope in the world of top 4, be lucky to even play finals.

Carlton and North Melbourne will also clash twice for the first time since 2007.
Essendon will play Fremantle at the MCG for the first time since 1999.
Other than covid, Geelong will play Hawthorn at the Cattery for the first time since 2006, and Richmond for the first time since 2017, they will also travel to the NT For the first time ever.

Collingwood play 7 of their last 8 games at the MCG

The Herald Sun published the attached pdf of the full FIXture by round. Have also attached their pdf of each inividual club.

What is clear is that the Opening Round with 8 teams playing 4 games, and those teams having byes 2 at a time in Rds 2,3,4, and 6 means the elimination of 1 of the 3 Sunday games in some of those rounds. Same thing happens during the Bye rounds of Rds 12 to 15. For some reason only Port and Freo get a bye in Rd 13.

Only have 2 Sunday games in Rds 3,5,6,7, 9 and bye rds 12 thru 15.

The AFL has also tried to get rid of many time slot clash games as possible and adjusted Sunday starting times to make sure there is no overlap of games.

Before daylight saving ends the WA teams play at 3.50pm local time = 6.50pm AEST for Sunday night football. There are Sunday night games EST in Rds Rd 8 Brisbane v GC 7.10 as Monday is the Labor day holiday, Rd 10 at 6.20 EST WCE v Melb in Perth, Rd 13 Essendon v Carlton at 7.20 King's Birthday long weekend.

There are no clash / overlap games in the following rounds
Opening
Rd 2
Rd 3 Easter
Rd 7 ANZAC Rd starts ANZAC eve on Wednesday night
Rds 12-15 which are the bye rounds

Rd 4 Gather Round there is a 1 hr overlap of Sunday arvo 2nd game at Norwood and AO twilight game.

In the following rounds the only time there are 2 games in the same time slot are Saturday night games in - Rd 1,5,6,8, 9 and 10.
The only Saturday arvo clash games in the same time slot is Rd 11.

Ross Lyon is pish. He's like Hinkley with a defensive plan.

Well Ross Lyon go Freeo to a GF more than Hinkley and better than any other freeo coach.

His recorded is strong, merely unlucky not to win one.
My alternate view is he coached the best team in the comp for multiple seasons and didn't win a flag. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one I'd say.

I went to Canberra once, two things stood out, fking cold and roundabouts.
Can’t see why we should ever have to play there.
You need to come in summer. 45 degrees in the shade and no rain for three months :p

But yeah, IIRC the last game we had here it was sleeting. Not ideal. I see that since then games here seem to have been scheduled earlier/later in the season.

Has coached St Kilda and Fremantle of all teams to 3 grand finals between them since the foodbowl club last saw the big day. Comparisons to Hinkley are insulting.

We have hit a wall☹ and the saints will slip, pencil in 4 wins with those double ups. If you go 50-50 with the rest of the double ups you will be sitting fine probably about 16 wins for you guys this year

No games in Adelaide for round 24.

The WA teams both played away in R1 this year, but that was because Optus was still being remediated from Ed Sheeran - what's the story with R24? I supposed there had to be some sort of evening out for all the early games at AO, for us and the Corporation.

Making a grand final means you are a strong and well coached team. For Lyon to do it three times across two clubs says it was no fluke. Winning the grand final takes a lot more than that - performing on the day, a bit of luck, being a Victorian team.

Lyon has proven he can get teams to stand up under the heat and pressure of finals football. Hinkley has done the opposite.

Every non covid year there has to be a week where there is no game played at AO if there is a bye.

2014 it was Rd 1 as AO wasnt ready. Most years its during the bye rounds period. A couple of years it was just before the byes started. This year its the last round. With the finals bye, its no real drama with respect to travel affecting finals teams.

Your points are valid but his game plan has not evolved since his better days.
What worked before doesn’t necessarily work today.
His style will never win or even make a GF in today’s game.
Who is better out of him and Hinkley?
Well if you take the old Port Adelaide thinking that if you don’t win the premiership your season is a fail they are both loser's

Pretty sure defensive game plans prevail.
