I swear I read somewhere we were trying to make Taylor richest player ever. Is that still happening?!

Wouldn't surprise me if Nash leaves as a free agent this year!!
Having Mackenzie, Ward & Hustwaite waiting in the wings it might be a win/win I know he is a Mitchell favourite but seeing Geelong's team on Thursday the midfield is full of short people and need a bigger bodied mid when Dangerfield ain't there and there is 3 Irishmen there already wouldn't surprise me that they are trying to get him there!!

Couldn't agree more plus we'd get end of first round compensation most likely. He's not in our next premiership side for mine. I like him as a player with his size and desire but he just doesn't hurt sides offensively in any manner. If he can learn to take a contested grab I'd change my mind.

Love Nash another one of Sam’s little pet projects that’s developing nicely ……. gotta remember during our last period of sustained success you need a number of players rolling through the middle. With his height, size and physicality adds a point of difference and a big reason we don’t get bullied and monstered in the middle like we use to only a couple of years ago. Hope he goes nowhere!

Like all hypotheticals, opinion on whether they're a net negative or positive depend on the outcomes that surround it.

If we received first round compensation, I'd view that as a net positive.
If we received end of first round compensation it's 50/50 imo.

More than likely is that we sign a free agent and get no compensation for anyone leaving us. I'd hate for us to lose Nash for nothing, i feel like he's been really important structurally in most of our good games over the last 18 months.

How much do you believe his value has dropped?

Off the top of my head I'm considering Sicily, Liberatore, Petracca, Taylor Walker who tore ACL's and returned to dominate the competition.

Probably a bunch more.

The sports science and recovery programs are first class now. It still takes 12 months, but the majority of players return just as good or better than they were before.
I freely grant that an ACL injury is LIKELY not as impactful on a player’s career as it was 30 years ago.

My point is simply that we cannot assume that Bailey Smith will be the player that he was pre-injury. How is this controversial? It is common sense. Just ask the “feel good story of the AFL”.

Being clear, I’d love it if Bailey Smith was on the Hawks list in 2025. Just not at the cost of our 1st pick.

Agree 100%.
And it may well transpire that Smith's form two years ago was the high-water mark of his career.
2 down years is not something to ignore.

It would be a second round.

Robbo says on Afl360 clubs having more control on contracts and trading players as they wish is coming…hallelujah!!!!!

I'm not sure what you're hoping for, but it would be minimal changes.

I'm of the view that if a player clearly acknowledges homesickness as the reason for their trade request then all sides in that players home state should have equal opportunity to acquire the player. That assists the club the player is leaving.
As an example, we could have traded Tyler Brockman to Fremantle if the Dockers offered us a more lucrative deal.

You won't see players being traded against their will though. It can't happen like overseas.
Society is also moving towards men and women having equal full time careers. If I'm a 28 year old AFL player with a wife and 2 kids and my partner is in a high paying job, why are people so keen to give the clubs the power to completely uproot that family dynamic with no say from the individuals?
As already stated, if the players were paid like the athletes in US sports then maybe it would be more justifiable.

They can’t ask for priority picks again, when they already got 2024 PP’s last year and traded them out.

Clubs would lose their minds if they got two goes at it.
I think you underestimate how shameless the Shinbeggers are!

Worpel had more than 2 down years before bouncing back.
Smith is approaching the age where many powerful players who spent a fair bit of time forward earlier in their careers move into the midfield as clearance specialists. His stats will be a bit deceiving as we wouldn't be looking to play him in a role that he has played consistently with the dogs.

HAWTHORN

The Hawks will surely look to bolster their key defensive stocks over the off-season given their deficiencies in that area of the ground, especially given Sam Frost is nearing the end of his career. Jacob Weitering was reportedly offered a monster deal by St Kilda, could the Hawks make a similar play after unsuccessfully going after Ben McKay and Esava Ratugolea last year? They’ve been linked to Western Bulldogs superstar Bailey Smith who would improve their midfield mix. Blake Hardwick is a restricted free agent and could attract rival interest, especially if he keeps shining as a forward, while Denver Grainger-Barras might also benefit from a change of scenery. Decisions on triple-premiership veterans Luke Breust and Jack Gunston are yet to happen, with the pair getting closer to hanging up the boots.
