Adelaide Oval success boosts AFL crowd figures

Why not sell off the land around like has been done at Waverley with housing etc.

So in effect the stadium is bulldozed, but he oval remains with Crows facilities and housing and land sales with whats left ..... win/win

The 8 SANFL (clubs) effectively own this entire precinct. They no longer own the Crows license. They are thirsty for cash. Look at how much area the stadium takes up. A 40 year lease to the Crows for no return is an enormous opportunity loss for the SANFL clubs. A deal will be struck with the Crows to pay them out so they can relocate somewhere closer to the city and the SANFL clubs can sell the entire farm.

Enormous opportunity to effectively fund the SANFL for a long long time, hope it is used wisely.

I was in the belief that the SANFL had earmarked 2020 as the year of any sell off. Part of the money for allowing football to return to AO would be spent on maintaining FP/aami till then. Basically a contingency if the SHTF. Prudent i would have thought.

Contingency for what?? Don Bradman rising from the grave to tell the footy to * off?? Seriously, what is going to happen? Nobody ever wants to go back to that dump. (Well apart from Leigh, Max and Graham)

There is no reason that the stadium concourse and stands can't be torn down leaving the main oval and Crows training facility, and turning the spare land into housing, the same as Waverley.

Who knows? I guess if for some reason, the clubs and the SMA don't come to a satisfactory resolution on their return they have leverage by having an alternate ground. Also never discount the egos of those in the SANFL and the SACA.
Whatever the reasons, this is what Basheer said on a recent interview and gave 2020 as the time frame.

From wikipedia.

"The SANFL will continue to use the stadium until approximately 2020, though the SANFL Grand Final will also move back to its original home at the Adelaide Oval from 2014. The SANFL plans to sell off the surrounding land in a 25 year development plan, though the main grandstand will be retained as SANFL headquarters and the oval for use by the Crows and some SANFL matches.[6] The main reason that the SANFL are set on such a long time line is that there is always a possibility that the SACA have a disagreement with the SANFL and/or AFL which would cause a return of football to West Lakes."

McLachlan: Ian or his nephew young Gil.
See Gils having a holiday despite the $s fiasco at Adelaide Oval unresolved after a bumper footy season.
