Australia Test squad - 2015

Faulkner is clearly one of the next in line to get a test run. His omission from every squad seems more of an opportunity to give him a rest than anything else. He has played a lot of cricket recently. Most media punters had him in the squad to England. They aren't going to be so far removed from the selectors thoughts that he isn't even in the selectors second best squad.

Maxwell has played more cricket and he is there. I just think the selectors have made the right call, he isn't a test player. He is a very good bits and pieces player. However he hasn't had any season where he averaged 50 with the bat. His bowling is solid but his best ball is the slower ball, it doesn't work that well in test cricket.

Clearly selectors have rewarded Shield form which is great to see, so Voges, Ahmed and Siddle all earned their call up. Was also going to be interesting to which way they went on the Wade v Nevill option, but regardless of who they chose it was never going to be a shock either way.

As for the central contracts absolutely stunned that Bailey kept his, can't think of a single reason why I would want him to ever play for Australia again. It's clear that Smith will take over the captaincy duties of the ODI & T20 sides now Clarke is purely a test player. Beyond that no real surprises.

Bailey you at least know what you will get, that is probably the reason in that they don't have a set candidate to replace Clarke. Not as if he told everyone 2 months ago either.

Come off it, everyone in Australia knows that Smith will replace Clarke as captain.

Yes Smith will captain. Someone has to replace Clarke though. Thats why Bailey is there
I see no point, Bailey will not be part of the next WC team in either format so might as well move him on now and look to someone fresh like Burns, Silk or someone else. With Maxwell maturing as a batsman it also reduces the need for Bailey, sure he still plays some bizarre shots at times, but what stood out most for me in the WC was the amount of traditionally shots that he scored from, it was much higher than I have ever seen from him before.

Then who are you replacing Clarke with, don't rattle names off, give me 1. If you can't then thats why Bailey is there. He still averages close to 50 in ODI's.

Can't we trust four bowlers to bowl get through at least 80 overs between them at Test level, especially if two of them are spinners?
Don't see it happening. Allrounders are not always picked. You could be right but I'm seeing it a bit different right now.
You must have been surprised to see two all-rounders picked in the squad for the West Indies and the Ashes?

You need to be able to predict the future to say with certainty it will continue though. Which is what you are doing. Get it?
Does this mean I can predict the future?

Not "surprised" at all.

My comments are based on what I'd like to see tried, on occasion. I'm not trying to predict what will/could happen. I've never said I don't think all-rounders should ever be picked, or that there's not a place for them. I just think we've got good enough front-line bowlers that we can sometimes "risk" (particularly against a side like the West Indies) going in with six specialist batsmen, a wicketkeeper, and four bowlers.

They are going to lose a very experienced player in Clarke and within a year a very experienced player in Haddin for one dayers.

Smith will need some more support, I'd say there is every chance that Bailey will get some more time in the one day team.

Pretty happy with the squads named tbh. Voges and Ahmed both earned their spots but it must be said that having a 35 year old as your reserve batsmen isn't really ideal situation IMO.

Not sure why we don't just name an 18-man squad and add Joe Burns too.
