If you've ever played cricket it is easy to tell which batsmen are shitting themselves. Normally the ones backing away and swinging and smiling afterwards are the ones.

Played the odd decade or two (almost 4) of cricket.

When you know it's short and at you and you're of limited ability and you have to score quick, backing to leg and swinging is a legitimate way.
He was still in reasonable position to hit a lot of them , he just missed them.
