Ha, I reckon we can get Casboult and McCarthy if we really wanted too.
To do so we need to get rid of our current negotiators as I dont have the confidence at this moment that they can get us over the line with the Bennell and McCarthy deals. Yes we have had Grand Final week but how does that stop our recruiters doing Due Dilligence on Harley Bennell on the other 6 days when the GF wasnt being played. I would have thought our recruiters shouldn't be worrying what our AFL team was doing in the finals as their role is recruiting so get on with it and recruit.

Gubby Allen was at Collingwood heading up recruiting and they won a premiership and then he was taken to the Lions by Lethal Leigh where he assembled the list of players for the 3 peat at Brisbane and he is a highly respected footy guy.
Maybe the other way around? Isn't he the guy that stunned the AFL by trading the 16 year old picks (hogan,Omeara) for more draft picks instead of established players like they thought they would be used for? What he's done is create a list of kids that want to go home. There's very few older stars. I thinks he's worried that all of their high picks will leave, leaving them back where they started.

I ask the tough questions....

Most importantly ... PotatoBaggins?!?

At Brisbane he got the 6 best players from a defunct club and had a 10% allowance above the salary cap. Got a number 1 draft pick at 30 under f/s.

They lost Sumner to retirement, Bennell and Dixon to trade.

They have pick #3, Port's pick #10, their end of first compo pick #19, their second #22 and then our second #35.

Those numbers are all *-ish

So unless they move on another player they won't use their own second round pick, let alone ours.

If I've read their delistings correctly as Hall, Broughton, Raines all being rookies along with the three they named in the article as being rookies.

They only had 38 senior players this year and 8 rookies. They might be going back to 40 senior players. Zac Smith also wants out and maybe Gorringe. I also remember when we did the Broughton trade GC asked for a pick back as well (56 from memory), they then ended up using that pick on an academy player who they could've used pick 156 on.

Gubby Allan has been involved in senior footy for 40 years.

Played 141 games for Fitzroy and Collingwood. The highlight being the 1981 GF where he had his jaw broken by Wayne Johnston.

Was Leigh Matthews' right hand man at Collingwood and Brisbane during Lethal's 4 premierships.

Played a vital role in Eddie McGuire's rise to the Collingwood presidency.

Masterminded the elaborate scheme which brought Nathan Buckley to Collingwood.

Surely the only football manager in VFL/AFL history to be suspended for striking (and conduct unbecoming of a team official) when he was involved in the infamous 1990 GF brawl. Received a six week penalty.

"What made the Collingwood and Essendon brawl different from many others was after viewing the fight between Sporn and Banks, Essendon runner Peter Power looked to join the brawl. However, Power was king hit by Collingwood manager Graeme Allan, in response Allan was hit by Kevin Sheedy, the Essendon coach and was set on by Mark Harvey, then an Essendon defender. While Sheedy and Harvey attempted a retreat, witnesses saw Essendon bootstudder, Graham Mendola clock Allan with an uppercut before being set upon by Collingwood team manager Eddie Hillgrove".

Ah the good old days.:) (Watch for a piece of Daicos magic at the beginning of the video).

From Fairfax (http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-trade-period-2015-day-two-20151012-gk7h5z.html):
"With so many players heading out, GWS do actually have one area they are looking to bring bodies in: the ruck. They're shopping among different teams, and confirmed an interest today in West Coast's Callum Sinclair. The Eagles say he's not for trading."

If that is the case, shouldn't we be able to get something done for Sunshine by trading Griff or Clarke?

Casboult you have got to be kidding me? Our skill level is already an area we are deficient in. Last thing we need is someone who can't kick. Don't care how good he is in the air. If he can't get it between the big white sticks he's useless.

Yeah not sold on Griffen going.

Clarke or Hannath and both hold little value.

It would be a case of this years first next years second and Griffin, although they'd want both our first and Griffen.

I actually think Hannath has a greater long term value then Griffen but Griffen deserves his opportunity to be best 22 for at minimum next year and possibly another 2-3 years.

Well, we will have to give up something to get a trade done, we are not really in the box seat like with HB. Do you prefer Griffen, or rather McCarthy & Clarke?

Clarke still has value. Played almost 100 games and was very important to our run of games in 2013. Yes he had a few games this year where he spudded it up but GWS are apparently looking at Robbie Warnock and Dawson ******* Simpson. Clarke is much maligned on this board but he has way more value than those hacks.

His goal kicking improved this year but other than his marking his skills are pour. His tank would not last RTB game plan IMO. I no our forward line is our Achilles heel but chase quality not c graders.

I am not doubting the value of either Griff or Clarke, both have had good games for us this year. BUT I think in the current situation the Giants are in a position to choose, and could pretty much nominate who they want out of the two and Freo would still consider it ...

This 100%.

If you were Griffin, would you want to play at GWS? Hannath maybe, but he's worth little. If he's interested in going there, he'd be a bit of a loose change for them, might get us over the line.

But really, we've got two first round picks, maybe a bit of stuff on the edges, but that's it really ... and it's a pretty good deal for them.

Strange rhetoric coming out of GWS, can't quite work out what they're on about really. It's been clearly stated on a number of occasions that Cam wants out. That is crystal, yet GWS say he doesn't. I know Gubby has been in the game a long time, but seems strange to me.

Maybe he's pushing Cam/Young to see if just how far they'll take it. If Cam/Young really put their foot down such that it begins to get ugly - Cam starts looking insolent and bitchy, this then gives GWS a way of saving face, so to speak, where they then take our deal (which will be a good one). If Cam/Young don't come out hard, well then GWS end up keeping their player which is what they want anyway ... maybe?
