The home of the Bulldogs will look very different by the time footy returns in 2023, with the Whitten Oval undergoing a $77 million redevelopment. The old EJ Whitten Stand has been demolished and will be replaced with a state-of-the-art complex and new grandstand, while the oval is also being rebuilt. The club aims to be back on the field for the start of this season on the last weekend of March, but work will continue throughout 2023.

Former Collingwood pair Caleb Poulter and Jay Rantall are set to be announced as arrivals to Footscray, it has been reported. The pair are training with the Bulldogs and took part in match simulation before Christmas. Poulter played 17 VFL matches for a total of 20, averaging 21.4 disposals and 5.1 marks. Rantall, played six VFL games for the Magpies before being delisted at the end of 2021, spending last year with Norwood, averaging 22.7 disposals and five tackles in 21 SANFL outings. Fellow ex-Magpie Tyler Brown was expected to join them before signing with Adelaide as a delisted free agent last week.

Delisted Bulldog Louis Butler has been linked to North Melbourne's VFL team by Code Sports. Butler, 21, played 14 VFL matches last year (average 21.3 disposals, 5.3 marks) for a total of 21 and one AFL game for a total of four.

Charlie Parker
has returned home to SANFL club Sturt after losing his place on the Western Bulldogs’ list. Parker played eight VFL matches in his only year at Whitten Oval, averaging 12.6 disposals.

Chance Doultree will be playing with Norwood Redlegs next year
Thats interesting considering he only just signed with Maffra and was planning to play there full-time. He clearly didn't get offered an extension at Footscray and Norwood was the only place that would pick him up.

Bloody hell, will we even have enough to field a side this season?
AFL-alligned clubs generally have around 20 players listed
There's already been 5 players in our match sims that has signed with Dogs that weren't there last year

Hey Vital,
Is Jordan Croft a chance to play a game or two with Footscray this year?

Always a chance
All depends on how Calder Cannons are doing this season

Reckon we will likely get Lual more than Croft based on roles

Don’t take this as a request but the main thing I look for in the VFL fixture is how it aligns to the AFL fixture.

As fans we were very frustrated last year as just about every VFL game seemed to be:
  • Earlier in the day so 1-2 emergencies didn’t get a game that weekend
  • Same day but in different state or Ballarat vs Melbourne (see above)
  • Sunday VFL games the week before a Friday AFL game so anyone getting promoted had a 5 day break.
In summary what I look for is:
  1. Will the AFL emergencies get a game that weekend
  2. Do the good VFL players have a chance to properly recover to play AFL the next week.

I'm actually working on something similar or at least point 1 of your summary, I'm just sick of looking at this fixture already 😂

Footscray are $21 on Ladbrokes to win the flag. This seems way overpriced considering we went undefeated 2 seasons ago and there has been fairly minimal change.

Am I missing something?

I know we missed finals last year which I thought was largely due to injuries to fringe depth players.
