Croad was the bigger issue. Was going to mention this.
CC really just drops someone and banishes them.
Tarrant was the wrong trade. Needed a second forward type and Murphy was perfect. Medhurst into the midfield was utter stupidity. Goes to Collingwood and loses 10kg and kicks 50 goals.
Yeah I was gutted Paul Hasleby retired at 30 or 31 back in 2010. Same with Des Headland. Not exactly the point of the thread, but I always wished we'd gotten to see Hasleby and Headland play under Ross. Both supremely talented but never reached the heights they should have.
Morabito and Ruffles the main ones that come to mind. Luke Webster another, wouldn't have necessarily been a star but deserved a decent career.

He had a beautiful gf at the time lolOn the OBYB podcast Mundy said Clayton Collard was the most naturally gifted talent he'd seen at Freo. I was too young to really remember him but I think Josh Simpson is another who could've become Cyril-like.
Agree with Ryan Murphy, 06 he was on an epic upward trajectory and once Tarrant entered the club Murph's career seemed to stall.

Based on his first 5 games, I reckon Shane Yarranwas the most talented player to debut for the dockers bar Tony Modra. I just don’t quite know where it all went wrong for him.PLAYERCARDSTARTShane Yarran

Mora was the guy we rated higher than Fyfe. And in their debut years there was little separating them. Could have been a powerful mid / winger, and would still be playing today.Mora is surely the most tragic story, up there with Clem Michael.
could've, not could ofAny Freo players that comes to mind that you think could have made it, but for some reason or another just fell short.
Could be injury related like Morabito or was just missing something that hindered them taking that next step.

Is that the burrows from Geraldton?Mora is surely the most tragic story, up there with Clem Michael.
From the early years I'd add Clinton Wolf, Gazza Dhurrkay, Lukey Toia and especially Craig Burrows. Craig kicked 23 goals for us in our first year and really suited Neesham's game style, looked like the real deal as a quality medium forward flanker - then just disappeared. Probably throw Craig Callaghan in there too.

Yep Shane Yarran was truly gifted. Tragic story.
I 95% agree with you... Until you remember Gablett Jr is basically one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Like Fyfe, he had many seasons restricted from injuries.Kinda sad isn’t it. Think Fyfe even, it’s not just the broken leg in 2015/16 that limited his mobility and the ongoing issues he’s had since, he’s battled shoulder issues ever since 2011. To win 2 Brownlows and be as good as he has been is testament to his determination and ability. But I honestly think if he had the injury history of Mundy throughout his career, he could’ve gone down as the actual GOAT of the AFL. We never truly saw the best of his incredible marking due to the shoulder issues, mixed with the forward craft of his early days and the brute core strength he developed. It’s a shame.
This, among many other reasons is why I'm against raising the draft age. It'll truly curtail the wrong people and communities that make this game beautiful. The Collard, Simpson mentions really ring home how valuable the NGA is IMHO.
I know people get frustrated that it's not delivering instantaneous results, but putting the infrastructure and planning in place to support the guys like Henry and Benning is going to pay off massively in the long run.

Leigh Wardell-Johnson. He was a process engineer by trade. Retired back to that and has for many years been high up in studies/mine development at a succession of mining companies.Peter Miller & Grant Waddell-Johnston.
I believe that Peter had to decide between his job and footy, but he could play a good game.
Hyphen just disappeared.
The wiz is the cat that went to crown casino car park (called Burswood then) and started ripping bumpers off cars. From memory he was told he wouldn’t be playing for a month and was back the next week. I think we had a different attitude towards off field behaviour back then.Mora and Clem.
Bell at his peak was playing for north Melbourne
Jeff farmer-he would win a game 1 week and then lose it the next off stupid free kicks or be suspended for a month.
I loved him when he was on and hated him when he ****ed up.
If he had pulled his head in he would have won us finals off his own back.
